Steam Officially Makes 9/10 Horror Game Completely Free Until May 19

The horror game Terrors to Unveil – Day Off, which has been well-received by players, is currently available for free until May 19th. If you download it before then, you can keep it permanently.

This psychological horror game is set in the 1990s, offering players a mix of nostalgic vibes and frightening moments. The game is from Psycho, the studio that also created the free horror game, Terrors to Unveil – Intrusion. That means horror fans can try out two of their games without spending any money.

Terrors to Unveil – Day Off Is a First-Person Horror Game With Multiple Endings

In Terrors to Unveil – Day Off, you’ll play as someone spending a quiet weekend at a secluded cottage with just a dog for company. What starts as a relaxing getaway quickly turns unsettling when the dog begins barking at seemingly nothing, and strange noises emerge from the nearby woods.

You can finish Terrors to Unveil – Day Off in a few hours, but it has two different endings, making it worth playing again. Reviewers note it has plenty of jump scares, but most players appreciate its immersive atmosphere and world-building.

One reviewer called this a “very cool depiction of a nightmare escape,” praising its graphics and unsettling atmosphere. They said it created a growing sense of unease.

This is the second game created by Psycho, and they plan to make a series of them. The first game, Intrusion, came out in 2025, and a third, Last Trace, is still in development. If you’re eager for a scare, a free demo of this game is available now.

Steam Has Tons of Free Games Right Now

If you enjoy horror, Terrors to Unveil – Day Off is a good free game to check out. However, if you prefer to avoid sudden scares, GreedFall: The Dying World is another option. It’s a role-playing game that came out earlier this year, but keep in mind you won’t be able to keep it permanently after the free trial.

Alongside Balatro, several other games are currently available to try for free, including Astral Ascent and V Rising. These titles, plus the multiplayer racing game Make Way, all have free trials running until May 18th.

Steam has added a bunch of new free games this month, including Sill Cats, a relaxing game about cats, and Relic Arena, a multiplayer autobattler. While some freebies don’t stick around forever, Steam always has something new to play, with fresh free games added weekly.
