James Bond film writers react as “most personal 007 story” tops fan poll to crown best entry in franchise

It’s likely you’ll get five different answers if you ask five James Bond fans to name their favorite 007 movie. Everyone has such strong feelings about the series!

We wanted to know which James Bond was the most popular, so we asked over 1,000 fans in a special TopMob poll. Here are the results!

Although many fans still consider the Sean Connery films to be the best, our recent poll actually showed a more recent movie as the favorite.

Skyfall, the 23rd James Bond film and the third to star Daniel Craig, was chosen as the best. This feels especially appropriate considering the movie was released in 2012 to celebrate 50 years of the Bond franchise.

Surprisingly, Daniel Craig’s first James Bond film, Casino Royale, took second place in the poll. Meanwhile, Sean Connery’s iconic films Goldfinger and From Russia with Love landed in third and fifth place, respectively.

Coming in at number four is George Lazenby’s only Bond film, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. It’s a movie that’s become increasingly popular over time, and we actually chose it as our overall favorite in the series.

As a huge Bond fan, I was so happy to hear Skyfall won! The writers – Neil Purvis, Robert Wade, and John Logan – who all worked on the script, said they were thrilled with the result, and honestly, so was I! It’s great to see their hard work recognized.

We’re thrilled Skyfall has been voted the best James Bond film,” a source told TopMob. “It likely resonated with audiences because the movie explored Bond’s past, making it the most personal story in the 007 series.”

They added that Sam Mendes directed the film with a clear focus on Britain, choosing to minimize scenes shot abroad and instead highlight the country’s own landscapes and culture.

Javier Bardem delivered a truly memorable performance as a villain, perfectly contrasting with Daniel Craig’s Bond, who was both vulnerable and determined. Judi Dench’s character also played a surprisingly impactful role, almost becoming the focus alongside Bond during their journey to Scotland. And of course, the fantastic theme song by Adele added to the film’s success.

“We’re sure everyone will be thrilled the film continues to be held in such high regard. We are.”
