**Warning: Full spoilers for Obsession (2026) ahead.**
2026 has already been an exceptional year for horror films. Movies like Undertone, Hokum, and 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple have really resonated with audiences, and some are even being called the scariest films of the year.
Curry Barker’s first film as director, Obsession, features a relatively unknown cast and tells the story of Barron “Bear” Bailey (Michael Johnston). Bear impulsively uses a magical item – a One Wish Willow bought from a mysterious shop – to try and make his childhood friend and crush, Nikki (played brilliantly by Inde Navarrette), fall in love with him. He soon discovers this seemingly harmless wish has unexpected and serious consequences.
Nikki’s feelings for Bear quickly turned into an all-consuming obsession, becoming increasingly disturbing and dangerous. She began sharing unsettling stories, harming herself with a broken bottle, and even threatened suicide if Bear didn’t return her affections.
Want to know what happened at the end of Obsession with Bear and Nikki? Here’s an explanation of the finale.
Obsession ending explained
By the peak of their intense connection, Nikki is completely devoted to Bear, but he’s starting to regret his actions and feels overwhelming guilt. One evening, he calls the number on the One Wish Willow package hoping for a solution, only to learn his wish is irreversible – unless Nikki, who made the wish, were to die.
Clearly upset by what he’d learned, Bear returned home to find Nikki waiting for him at the door. She’d been there all day, and was in a terrible state, having vomited and soiled herself. While cleaning her up, Bear told her he was going to a party at his friend Ian’s house later that evening. Nikki immediately became furious that she hadn’t been invited, so Bear, with reluctance, asked her to come along.

Nikki’s strange behavior at Ian’s party, and a disturbing story she shares from her notebook, worries several guests, including Bear’s friend Sarah (Megan Lawless). Bear takes Sarah home and tucks her into bed, but while she’s sleeping, a voice that sounds like the real Nikki pleads with him to end her life.
Okay, so things get really messy later on. Sarah reaches out to Bear, wanting to talk, and the conversation is a bombshell. She confesses that Nikki and Ian were having an affair before she suddenly started falling for Bear. And then… she admits she’s actually developed feelings for him. It’s a total twist, and honestly, I was shocked! It throws everything we thought we knew about their relationships into question.
Suddenly, in what might be the most shocking moment of the year so far, Nikki smashed through the car window and fatally attacked Sarah with a brick that had been left on the steering wheel.
Bear was shocked by the results of his wish and frantically tried to buy another One Wish Willow to undo it, but discovered you only get one wish. He rushed to Ian’s house, desperately trying to convince him to wish Bear’s wish hadn’t happened. Ian didn’t believe him, though, and instead wished for a billion dollars, which immediately started falling from the sky, burying them both under a mountain of cash.
Bear returns home and once again finds Nikki waiting for him. This time, though, she’s got a gun.
Nikki starts to threaten Bear, claiming he doesn’t love her. Just then, Ian bursts in, thrilled about some money he’s made. Nikki immediately shoots and kills him. Bear wrestles the gun away and locks himself in the bathroom. He considers suicide, but can’t bring himself to pull the trigger, so he swallows a handful of pills instead.
While Bear is having trouble in the bathroom, Nikki discovers a new One Wish Willow in the living room and uses it to wish Bear would return her feelings.
Bear rushed outside and fell into Nikki’s arms. They held each other, but Bear began to suffer a drug overdose, foaming at the mouth, and quickly died. Distraught, Nikki reached for the gun, intending to end her own life and join him. However, the moment Bear died, she snapped out of her despair and regained control of herself.
Nikki snapped back to reality and surveyed the damage Bear had inflicted. Seeing two people lying dead around her, she screamed in terror.
Could Obsession get a sequel?
Now that Nikki made it through the movie, there’s a chance we might see another Obsession film, but it hasn’t been officially announced.
Director Barker recently told Variety that while a sequel to ‘Obsession’ is possible, it wouldn’t feature any of the original characters. He envisions expanding the story’s universe with a new cast instead of revisiting the previous ones.
