Remaster of PS2 Exclusive Game From 2005 Announced for PS4 and PS5

I was so excited to hear they’re remastering that classic PS2 sci-fi game from 2005! It’s been a long time coming – this is the first time it’s been re-released outside of a PSP port way back in 2010. The only catch? It’s currently only announced for release in Japan. That means if I want to play it on my PS4 or PS5 when it comes out on June 25th, I’ll have to import it, and unfortunately, there’s still no English version available.

Mages announced that a remastered version of the sci-fi romance visual novel, My Merry May With Be, will be released on PlayStation 4 and 5 on June 25th, along with the previously confirmed Nintendo Switch version. My Merry May With Be is a collection of two earlier games: My Merry May, originally released for the Sega Dreamcast in 2002, and My Merry Maybe from 2003, which was available on PlayStation 2 and Sega Dreamcast. This remastered edition also includes a new prologue, an additional story that takes place between the two games, and a special epilogue.

A Forgotten PS2 Exclusive Game

Even in 2026, visual novels haven’t become mainstream – they’ve always been a relatively small market. Many fans believe the golden age for these games was during the time of the Sega Dreamcast and PlayStation 2, particularly in Japan.

The game is a romantic visual novel centered around “Replices” – artificial beings created to be like humans. While it features everyday life drama and romance, it also touches on interesting sci-fi ideas about identity and what it means to be human. It looks like many romance games, and does have some fan service, but it explores these themes with more depth than similar titles.

We still don’t know how much Mages will charge for the re-release. It’s also unclear exactly what improvements have been made to qualify it as a remaster rather than a simple port. However, it’s been confirmed that this is a remaster – meaning it’s the original PlayStation 2 game with updated visuals and enhancements, not a complete remake or reimagining.
