A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms Season 2 Release Window Clarified After Unfortunate Filming Delays

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms could be returning sooner rather than later.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is a new HBO series inspired by George R.R. Martin’s books, Dunk & Egg. Set 90 years before the events of Game of Thrones, the show follows Ser Duncan the Tall (Peter Claffey) and his young apprentice, Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell), on their adventures throughout Westeros during the time of the Targaryen dynasty and its eventual weakening.

Ira Parker, the showrunner for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, recently told Entertainment Weekly that the show is still on track to return in 2027, despite recent filming delays caused by flooding. He jokingly said they’re hoping for a dry spell – “the opposite of what Dunk wants” – to keep production moving forward, wishing for “hot, dry, blue skies.”

I’m stuck in a hotel in Gran Canaria right now, waiting for this rain to let up. It’s alright, actually. We’re just working through everything – planning, having backup plans, the usual. Honestly, at this point, we could really use a bit of luck. That’s where we’re at, I guess.

Lucy Boynton, the actress from Bohemian Rhapsody, will appear in season 2 as Lady Rohanne, a powerful noblewoman who leads House Webber and rules Coldmoat. She’s widely known as the Red Widow. According to the show’s creator, her character will challenge Dunk and make him uneasy. This season will also see Dunk get involved in political maneuvering, forcing him to interact with noblewomen.

Babou Ceesay, known for his role in Alien: Earth, and Peter Mullan, from Ozark, are joining the cast. Ceesay will play Ser Bennis of the Brown Shield, and Mullan will portray Ser Eustace Osgrey, the head of House Osgrey. According to creator Ryan Parker, Ceesay has brought a lot of depth to the character of Ser Bennis, making him a compelling contrast to both Dunk and Egg. Parker notes that Ceesay has a unique charisma – even when his character says questionable things, he’s strangely likable.

Okay, so it sounds like filming hit a snag when Storm Therese caused some serious flooding and damage at Las Niñas Dam. They actually started shooting in Belfast, but had to move things over to Gran Canaria in Spain – apparently, the scenery there is incredible. They had rainfall over there that hadn’t been seen in fifteen years! Thankfully, it looks like they’re back on track now; we’re starting to see set photos of the cast, which is a great sign after all that storm trouble.

HBO’s A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has quickly become a hit, ranking as the third most-watched series debut with 13 to 14 million viewers per episode. The first season has been critically acclaimed, earning a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and viewers are eager for more adventures with the popular mercenary.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 1 is available to watch on HBO Max.
