‘They’re Not Just Filler’: Edward Actor Hypes Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag’s New Story Scenes

When I heard Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced was getting a whole bunch of new story stuff – not just side quests, but actual character stories and a bigger main plot – it got everyone talking. We were all wondering what exactly that would look like and how it would change the game.

While some viewers have noted minor issues with the remake’s timing and flow, Matt Ryan, who played the main character Edward Kenway, believes the added content is a valuable improvement.

Just so everyone knows, Ryan returned to voice Kenway in the new scenes, and he seemed genuinely happy to reprise the role.

He described it as a really special experience – strange, wonderful, and full of fond memories, like reconnecting with an old friend, he told Game Informer.

Honestly, getting back into character felt surprisingly natural. I’ve noticed my voice is a little deeper now, but thankfully my acting training really helped! It’s just been such a blast returning and filming all these new scenes after everything that’s happened and all this time away.

He was particularly impressed with the new scenes, explaining that they felt incredibly vivid and enriched both the characters and the overall story. He emphasized that they served a meaningful purpose, rather than simply adding length.

I’ve always gotten the impression that Ryan really loves the character of Edward, so I definitely believe what he’s saying. It just feels honest coming from him, knowing how much he seems to care about the story.

He added that he’s thrilled for fans who have followed the character’s story in the past to experience it again, and to appreciate the new layers and depth we’ve added.

Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced is still scheduled to launch on PlayStation 5 on July 9th. Are you excited about it? What new story content are you hoping to see? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
