Even though this new version of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is being significantly updated, it still tells the same story as the 2013 game. The modern-day segments and downloadable content have been removed, but you’ll still play through the adventures of Edward Kenway.
The game has been updated with new scenes – one of which writer Darby McDevitt considers a personal highlight. Alongside new quests involving characters like Thatch, the story will also delve deeper into the experiences of the main character, Kenway. Voice actor Matt Ryan emphasizes these additions aren’t just filler; they contribute meaningfully to the overall narrative.
It’s wonderful to be back playing Edward after all this time, and the new scenes are fantastic,” he told Game Informer. “They really stood out when I read them and bring a lot more depth to both the character and the overall story. They feel meaningful and aren’t just added to make things longer.
He called working on the project a deeply moving experience – strange, wonderful, and filled with nostalgia. He said it felt like reconnecting with an old friend, recalling that the first time around, the outcome was uncertain. He just focused on doing the best work possible, researching thoroughly and giving it his all.
After more than twelve years, millions of copies sold, and a lot of positive reviews, revisiting the role feels very different. It was daunting to think about how to recapture a character loved by Assassin’s Creed fans. But once I started, it actually came quite naturally. My voice has changed a bit over the years – it’s a little deeper now – so I did some acting work to get back into the right tone.
Launching on July 9th for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is a complete rebuild of the original game, built with Ubisoft’s newest Anvil Engine. Everything from the textures to the character models has been completely updated, and the weather system now features more immersive Atmos effects. While the overall world map stays true to the original, the developers at Ubisoft Singapore have added lots of new content, including additional islands and locations to explore.
Stay up-to-date with the latest news and explore the new underwater gameplay! Edward can now dive anywhere, and we’ve added accessibility options so you can skip the quick-time events during shark attacks if you prefer.
