Subnautica 2’s first update is now live, addressing some crashes, particularly for those with AMD graphics cards. Developer Unknown Worlds also plans to revise its user agreement (EULA), which players have criticized as being overly broad and giving the studio and its parent company, Krafton, too much power, as reported by IGN.
The game’s user agreement (EULA) restricts players in several ways. It prohibits using VPNs, claims ownership of any modifications (mods) created for the game, and prevents players from damaging the reputation of Krafton or the upcoming game, Subnautica 2.
Good news for players: the game’s rules (Terms of Service) are getting updated, and a new FAQ will soon answer questions about the current rules that players have been worried about. However, the developers haven’t yet shared specifics about what exactly will be changing.
The studio announced they will soon update their Terms of Service and release a FAQ to answer questions about the current version, as noted in their latest patch notes.
This update includes a fix for crashes that sometimes happened when using the Ping feature. Additionally, the game now automatically tracks analytics after players accept the Terms of Service, but you can disable this tracking at any time in the game’s settings.
Recently, some Subnautica 2 players have expressed disappointment that the game doesn’t allow players to fight the underwater creatures. A level designer addressed the concern on the game’s Discord server, explaining that Subnautica 2 isn’t designed to be a combat-focused game. They suggested that players looking for a survival crafting experience with fighting should consider games like Sons of the Forest instead.
The level designer clarified that this isn’t a game focused on killing. They suggested players who enjoy that type of gameplay might prefer something like Sons of the Forest instead.
This reaction has sparked a lot of debate about what constitutes constructive criticism, versus simply expressing dissatisfaction with the game’s overall direction. Some players questioned the purpose of Early Access if developers weren’t willing to consider feedback, while others pointed out that requesting feedback doesn’t mean developers are obligated to implement every suggestion. One player asked if developers would be wrong to reject a drastic change request – like turning the game into a modern-day Earth-based first-person shooter – and suggest players simply play a different game instead.
