After seven years, five seasons, and a lot of intense moments, the show has concluded. It’s been a lengthy journey for Billy Butcher and his team, who have tried numerous creative – and often extreme – methods to eliminate Homelander.
After everything they’ve been through, the team is finally facing the consequences. With Frenchie gone and Homelander now seemingly invincible, tensions are incredibly high. In the final episode, the Boys attempt a dangerous mission: infiltrating the White House to kill Homelander while he’s speaking to the nation. Will anyone survive this, which is likely their most perilous operation yet?
Who Dies in the Series Finale of The Boys?
The story features several character deaths. While most characters die in the original comics, the TV show lets a few survive. This was likely a good decision for the show, as Frenchie’s death was already very impactful.
Hughie, Butcher, Starlight, M.M., and Kimiko reach the White House using hidden tunnels – the same ones reportedly used by President Kennedy to secretly bring Marilyn Monroe to visit. They’re unexpectedly rescued by President Ashley Barrett, who finally decides to oppose Homelander and do what’s right.
Okay, so the fight between Starlight and the Deep got intense on the beach. But the really brutal part wasn’t the physical fight, it was Homelander just completely dismantling the Deep’s confidence by admitting he never even liked him. It was a seriously harsh moment. And honestly, the way it ended felt…right. The ocean creatures, the sharks and everything, just turned on him, getting revenge for his support of that awful oil pipeline. It was a dark, but strangely satisfying, end for his character.
Okay, so things took a dark turn. M.M. ended Oh Father’s life – with a gift, ironically, from Ashley. Honestly, it felt like a fitting, if unsettling, exit for a character who always walked a morally gray line. The cause of death? Well, it was likely either just old age – Butcher had him on his radar for years before the show even started – or that accidental chocolate incident from earlier this season finally caught up with him. Either way, Oh Father’s death really pushed Butcher to make a choice he’s going to seriously regret, I can already tell.
How Do Homelander and Butcher’s Stories End?
The final showdown between Homelander and Butcher takes place in the Oval Office. Butcher, with his usual sarcastic humor and a determined grin, is ready to finally get his revenge. Their fight is interrupted by Ryan, who steps in after making it clear that he’s deeply disappointed in Homelander – not just as a father or a hero, but as a person.
Kimiko uses her radiation powers to strip Homelander, Butcher, and Ryan of their abilities, leaving them vulnerable. Homelander, now powerless, experiences genuine human fear for the first time. Butcher easily overpowers him, as Homelander desperately pleads for his life and offers anything for mercy. Butcher ultimately kills Homelander, finishing him off as a tribute to Frenchie and Becca.
With Homelander gone, people are trying to return to normal life and are largely celebrating the change. While things seem to be improving, a new threat emerges. Still devastated by the loss of Terror, Butcher decides to weaponize the virus and intends to use it to eliminate all Supes, even those he once considered allies like Starlight and Kimiko.
Hughie confronts Butcher, determined to stop him and even threatening him if necessary. This is a big step for Hughie, as he’s usually intimidated by Butcher, who has always been a guiding figure in his life, almost like an older brother. Just when it seems Butcher might stand down, Hughie unexpectedly shoots him.
The butcher confessed he left Hughie with no options and surprisingly appeared pleased about it. Right before he died, he also revealed that Hughie looked exactly like his late younger brother, Lenny.
Who Lives in The Boys’ Last Episode?
Following the intense conflict between Homelander and Butcher, Hughie, Starlight, M.M., Kimiko, Ryan, and Ashley are the primary characters left standing. Although Ashley publicly condemned Homelander, she’s ultimately fired from her position due to her past secret dealings with him. Ryan, now without his powers, begins training with M.M., suggesting a new mentorship. Meanwhile, M.M. and Monique reconnect and get married in a private ceremony with his daughter and Ryan present.
After Frenchie’s death, Kimiko decides to forge her own path. She travels to a restaurant in France that Frenchie often spoke about, finding solace as she takes control of her life. Meanwhile, Hughie declines a job offer from the government – a position overseeing a team dedicated to arresting supes. Instead, he focuses on running his own electronics store, a return to the work he did before joining Butcher’s group.
Despite leaving the official superhero scene, Hughie hasn’t given up on fighting crime. He’s teamed up with Starlight, taking a more grassroots, independent approach similar to Spider-Man. This allows Starlight to finally be the genuine hero she always envisioned when she joined The Seven. And to make things even more significant, Hughie and Starlight are expecting a baby, and they’ve decided to name the child Robin, in memory of Hughie’s late girlfriend.
While not every character found happiness, the ones who truly earned it did, and that’s a satisfying outcome for viewers of The Boys.
The Boys is available to stream on Prime Video.
