It’s been really frustrating lately seeing so many live-service games just disappear. Sometimes it’s understandable – a game’s just run its course, or the license for the game’s world runs out. But a lot of times, games get shut down after they’ve actually been doing okay for a while, which is a bummer. And then you get the really sad cases, like this new PvP action game in Early Access that just announced it’s shutting down in June – it never really found enough players, and that’s always disappointing.
Quantic Dream, the creators of popular games like Detroit Become Human and the forthcoming Star Wars Eclipse, launched Spellcasters Chronicles into Early Access in February 2026. The game featured 3v3 battles where players used summons, spells, and strategy. Despite being free-to-play during Early Access – a move often intended to build a large player base – Quantic Dream has announced they are ending development and shutting down the servers on June 19th, citing a lack of player interest as the primary reason.
Quantic Dream Shuts Down Spellcasters Chronicles, Offers Full Refunds
Quantic Dream announced some disappointing news on May 20th through the Steam page for Spellcasters Chronicles. They’re stopping development of the game because it hasn’t attracted enough players to keep it running long-term. While the game is currently still available to play in Early Access on Steam, the servers will be switched off completely on June 19th, meaning you won’t be able to play Spellcasters Chronicles after that.
Even though Spellcasters Chronicles was free to play, players could make purchases within the game. Because the game is shutting down, Quantic Dream will be offering full refunds for any money spent during Early Access. Keep an eye on their social media channels in the next few days for details on how to request a refund and when the game will officially close.
Unfortunately, this game won’t be leaving Early Access. It highlights the risk of buying games that are still in development – they might never be finished. Luckily, because the game is free-to-play and offers refunds, players won’t lose any money. However, those who enjoyed playing it will eventually lose access, and it’s disappointing considering many reviews suggested it had a lot of potential.

Despite receiving mixed reviews, the game didn’t seem to gain a large following. Currently, Spellcasters Chronicles has just under 1,000 reviews on Steam, averaging a ‘Mixed’ rating. If you’re interested in trying it out, you have about a month – the game will be removed from access permanently on June 19th.
Fans of Quantic Dream are likely curious about what this means for their other big game, Star Wars Eclipse. Fortunately, development on Star Wars Eclipse is continuing as planned, even with the cancellation of their early access MOBA game.
