Mike White Reveals Survivor Players Appearing on White Lotus Season 4

Two Survivor contestants are in for a much more relaxing beach experience.

While Mike White’s tenure on Survivor 50 was a shorter one, his time on the Fijian island did give him time to consider who from the season he’d be bringing in for cameos on The White Lotus’ season four.

During the season finale on May 20th, where Aubry Bracco was named the winner and received a $2 million prize, it was announced that Charlie Davis and Kamilla Karthigesu would also receive a significant reward.

Mike joined the finale remotely by video call and told Jeff Probst that while everyone was welcome to participate in the fourth season of the HBO show, only Kamilla and Charlie would be flown in as contestants.

The show cut to the eliminated contestants watching the finale, and the cameras caught Kamilla and Charlie happily laughing and dancing together.

The couple shared the news on a TikTok video posted to the Survivor account, playfully announcing their trip to France in somewhat broken French. Charlie then added, “We’re hoping to brush up on our French skills! Thanks, Mike, we’re really excited!”

Former Survivor contestants Kamilla and Charlie, who were eliminated in season 50, are now part of a group of players appearing on Mike White’s show. Alec Merlino had a speaking role in season one, while Angelina Keeley and Kara Kay briefly appeared in a beach scene during season two. Natalie Cole, Carl Boudreaux, and Christian Hubicki all made brief, uncredited appearances in season three.

Although Mike didn’t win Survivor 50 – he was voted out fourth – his time filming in Fiji allowed him to work on the next season of The White Lotus. The new season will feature Kumail Nanjiani, Rosie Perez, Laura Dern, Max Greenfield, and Steve Coogan.

Because Survivor keeps eliminated players in Fiji until the show finishes airing, Mike suddenly found himself with some free time.

Mike admitted he was disappointed when he was voted off the show. He took a day to feel sorry for himself, but quickly got back to focusing on his game.

“Nobody knew where I was, I didn’t have a phone” the School of Rock alum continued. “So, just being able to write White Lotus season four was like a gift in and of itself.”

HBO confirmed a fourth season of The White Lotus in January 2025, before the third season even aired. The renewal came after the show’s creator, Mike White, presented ideas for continuing the darkly comedic story of wealth and intrigue.

HBO CEO Casey Bloys stated in November that if Mike wants to continue the show for a fourth season, it will happen.

Production on season four kicked off in April 2026.

As a lifestyle expert, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news about the upcoming season! HBO has officially set France as the backdrop, and sources confirmed it’ll be filmed at the stunning Château de la Messardière in Saint-Tropez. This incredible 19th-century palace has been beautifully restored and now operates as a luxurious hotel – talk about a glamorous location for a series!

Before the announcement was made, actress Parker Posey, known for her work on the show, mentioned to TopMob News that the cast of The White Lotus was planning to film in France.

White and fellow producers had been dropping hints, too.

HBO Programming executive Francesca Orsi told Deadline in February that they’re planning to scout locations over the next few weeks. While she wouldn’t reveal specific places, she indicated they’re likely to film somewhere in Europe.

Chances, she emphasized.

Orsi explained that while they’ve discussed potential filming locations in certain countries, they haven’t started looking at specific sites yet and therefore have no updates to share.

After the season three finale aired on April 6th, White told HBO he wanted to move away from the show’s previously intense and dramatic style – which he described as ‘crashing waves against rocks’ – in the next season.

“But,” he added, “there’s always room for more murders at the White Lotus hotels.”

While attending the Vivid Festival in Sydney in June 2023, White shared that Australia is a place he’s always dreamed of visiting.

He said it sounded like a lot of fun, adding that the talent was impressive and the surroundings were beautiful, making it seem like everything was perfect.

The cast for the upcoming project includes Alexander Ludwig, known for his role in The Hunger Games, and singer AJ Michalka of Aly & AJ. They were the first actors announced, and were followed by Chris Messina, Marissa Long, Steve Coogan, Caleb Jonte Edwards, Chloe Bennet, Max Greenfield, Charlie Hall, Kumail Nanjiani, and Jarrad Paul.

HBO originally announced in January 2026 that Helena Bonham Carter would appear in season four, but the network later confirmed she would be leaving the show shortly after filming started. Her character will be rewritten for a different actor.

An HBO spokesperson told TopMob News in April 2026 that a character created for Helena Bonham Carter in season four of The White Lotus didn’t work out during filming. The role is being rewritten and will be played by a different actor in the coming weeks.

HBO, along with the show’s creators and Mike White, expressed their disappointment about not being able to continue working with the actress. They remain big fans and hope to collaborate with her on a future project.

Emmy Award-winning composer Cristóbal Tapia de Veer, known for the music of The White Lotus, won’t be returning for the show’s fourth season. He says this is due to creative differences with the show’s creator, Mike White, which began during the first season.

Tapia de Veer explained to the New York Times that a few months prior, he had informed the team he wouldn’t be returning. He chose not to tell Mike Flanagan directly until the very end, wanting to deliver the news as a surprise. However, Flanagan did eventually learn of the decision before the season concluded.

Composer Bear McCreary recalled that despite the memorable theme music he created for the first season—which also opened the second—getting it approved was difficult. According to McCreary, the showrunner initially didn’t want the theme at all, and it was a struggle to convince them of its value. He explained, ‘You see it afterward, and it’s a success, but to get there is quite the struggle.’

He wasn’t asked to change the show’s opening sequence for the third season, but he did it anyway, which upset many fans.

After the news broke, I was contacted by media outlets like TMZ, and even people from England and France, all wanting a comment about the theme song. I found it interesting how angry people were about the change. I suggested to the producer that we eventually release the full version, with the ‘ooh-loo-loo-loos,’ because I thought fans would be really upset if they knew that version existed all along. He liked the idea, but Mike ultimately decided against it – he wasn’t on board.

The composer explained that they’d already had what he considered their final argument. Because of that, he was refusing everything.

On April 8th’s The Howard Stern Show, White criticized Tapia de Veer’s public complaints, calling it a disrespectful act.

I’m really not sure what led to this situation,” White explained. “I’m only finding out details now through his interviews, as he’s doing a media campaign about his departure. It just seems like he didn’t have much respect for me.

The producer explained they didn’t actually have a real conflict. He said people thought they were feuding, but it was mostly just him offering feedback.

According to White, their working relationship was successful for the first two seasons because they freely exchanged ideas. However, by the third season, Tapia de Veer no longer wanted to collaborate – he didn’t want to share his work or receive feedback, and he stopped attending recording sessions.

And, White added, “He’s definitely making a big deal out of just a creative difference.”

Jennifer Coolidge was happily surprised that Jon Gries, who previously played both Tanya’s intriguing love interest Greg and her manipulative husband, returned for the third season as the villainous widower, Gary. However, Gries has indicated that, to his knowledge, his character’s romantic storyline is finished.

However, that’s what he thought last time.

He told The Hollywood Reporter that while he doesn’t plan to return, he’s never entirely sure. After the season three finale, where Gary’s secret remained hidden, he explained, “Each time I finish working on the show, I consider it to be the end of my involvement.”

Despite the exciting idea of a completely new cast each season—as White described to The New Yorker, imagining being able to ‘start building again’ from scratch—the show has demonstrated that as long as a character isn’t actually killed off…

Mike White is full of surprises, so I have no idea what to expect,” said actor Nicholas Braun to The Hollywood Reporter. “I wasn’t expecting to be in season two, and the same was true for season three. I’d definitely be interested in returning, but I honestly don’t know if my character’s story is finished.”

Okay, so I’m still completely devastated about Tanya. Honestly, unless they do some crazy thing like a White Lotus origin story or, like, a multiverse episode, there’s just no way she’s coming back, right? It’d have to be a flashback or maybe she’s in someone’s dream. Ever since that awful moment when she fell off the yacht in the finale – and we found out she was the body everyone was talking about – I’ve been holding out hope. It was so shocking, especially because she was the only one from season one who came back, and now… it just feels wrong without her.

White has acknowledged feeling the loss of Coolidge, but understands why he chose to eliminate Tanya, despite her good intentions, naiveté, and immense wealth.

Coolidge described White as someone who firmly stands by his choices. Speaking on TopMob News in January 2023, after the season finale, she said he’s a great friend but had already made up his mind. He apparently wanted a grand, over-the-top, and dramatic conclusion to The White Lotus 2, and that meant Tanya had to be sacrificed.

She confirmed to The New Yorker that she wouldn’t be returning for the third season, filmed in Thailand, stating, “I don’t think Tanya’s ever coming back, so I have to accept that.”
