Nintendo Switch Exclusive Remake of 1994 SNES Game Announced

A game originally released for the SNES in 1994 is getting a remake after 32 years, launching on September 3rd. While the original was only available on SNES, this new version will initially be exclusive to Nintendo Switch, but it will also be released on PC. There are currently no plans for a dedicated Switch 2 version, however, the Switch version will work on the Switch 2 due to backward compatibility.

Developer Sunsoft and publisher Gravity Games Arise are releasing a remake of a classic SNES game called Hashire Hebereke: EX on September 3rd. The original Hashire Hebereke never officially came to North America or Europe, meaning most Western Nintendo fans are likely unaware of it. To play the original, you would have needed to import a Japanese copy of the game and be able to read Japanese, making it a rare and obscure title. As a result, very few Nintendo fans in the West even knew the game existed.

A Forgotten SNES Racing Game

If you’re just discovering this SNES game, it’s a racing title and the fifth installment in the Hebereke series – it’s pretty obscure, honestly! The first game was made by Sunsoft too, and while it got some okay reviews when it came out, it wasn’t exactly a smash hit.

We don’t have any new details about the remake yet. Nintendo hasn’t released any information or shown any gameplay footage, which is unusual since it’s coming out in just a few months. They’re calling it a “modern remake,” but it’s unclear what that means. Unlike the original, which was only available in Japanese, the remake will support English, French, Italian, Spanish, Dutch, Japanese, Korean, Traditional Chinese, and Simplified Chinese.

Sunsoft describes the game as a fast-paced racer where players pick from a lineup of charming characters and compete on courses filled with items and obstacles. You can play with up to four friends locally or challenge up to eight players online for some chaotic fun.
