While plans for more KPop Demon Hunters content – like sequels and tours – are underway, a new animated film, Swapped, is quickly gaining popularity and could soon become the streaming service’s most-watched animated movie.
The animated film Swapped, featuring Michael B. Jordan, Juno Temple, and Tracy Morgan, has quickly become a hit on Netflix. As of today, it’s been viewed over 80.6 million times, making it the second most-watched animated movie on the platform. Released on May 1st, Swapped reached this impressive milestone in just three weeks. While Netflix hasn’t announced any plans for a sequel, its popularity suggests another adventure with the PooKoo is possible.
Swapped’s Titanic Opening
Netflix’s new movie, Swapped, had a very strong start, earning 15.5 million views globally during its first weekend – one of the platform’s biggest openings ever. It quickly outperformed KPop Demon Hunters, which makes sense given how long it took that film to become a major animated success. Swapped isn’t the only Netflix original to have a better opening weekend than KPop Demon Hunters; films like Leo, The Sea Beast, Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, and Orion and the Dark also had impressive debuts. Although sequels haven’t been announced for these movies, their popularity suggests they could continue. And Swapped itself ends in a way that clearly leaves room for a follow-up story.
The animated film KPop Demon Hunters has been a massive hit, captivating fans with the adventures of Huntrix and the Soja Boys. It even won two Academy Awards – for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song, thanks to their incredibly popular track, “Golden.” However, despite its success, fans will have to wait until 2029 for the sequel. To keep the excitement going, a world tour is planned for 2027, bringing the film’s music to life with live performances around the globe.
