New Batman Crossover Event Confirmed by DC Comics With First-Look Artwork

People often believe that great comic books depend heavily on their illustrations. If that’s the case, an upcoming story promises to be something special.

DC Comics revealed a new Batman storyline called Batman: Bad Seeds, where Batman will face off against Poison Ivy. They also shared some exciting new artwork for the event.

The cover art for Batman: Bad Seeds – Sunset #1, launching in August 2026, is reminiscent of Dexter Soy’s work, depicting Batman as a gaunt, scarecrow-like figure. However, this version has his legs completely transformed into interwoven vines. The backdrop reveals the chaotic state of Gotham City under Mayor Pamela Isley, who is shown alongside Police Commissioner Vandal Savage and a heavily armed S.W.A.T. team.

The main cover art is by Giuseppe Camuncoli, Cliff Rathburn, and Tomeu Morey, the comic’s regular artists. But DC is also offering a set of alternate covers by well-known artists like Dan Mora, Marcio Takara, and Jorge Jiménez. Jeff Spokes is creating a special version that glows in the dark.

Alongside the new Batman: Bad Seeds – Sunset #1 comic, issue #47 of Poison Ivy is also being released. This Poison Ivy issue sets the stage for an upcoming crossover story and features artwork by Leandro Fernandez. The main cover, depicting Poison Ivy in a scene reminiscent of a Shakespearean tragedy, is by Jessica Fong, who has previously created covers for the Poison Ivy comic series.

So, DC is releasing some really cool alternate covers for Poison Ivy #47. They’re showing Ivy as this powerful, commanding figure – definitely leaning into a more classic, seductive look. I’m especially hyped about the one by Noobovich, a freelance artist. Kyuyong Eom, who’s done work before, is contributing too, and Manny Vincent Carbonilla, a regular on Poison Ivy variant covers, has a really dark and interesting design coming out as well. It’s gonna be tough choosing which one to get!

Batman: Bad Seeds Is Told Through Multiple DC Titles

Batman and Poison Ivy have been at odds since her first appearance in 1966. Recent stories have explored their rivalry in unique ways, like the gender-swapped ‘The Poisoned Man’ and a disturbing body horror version. But the upcoming ‘Batman: Bad Seeds’ promises to be one of their most challenging confrontations yet.

The story starts with a previous issue, Poison Ivy #47 by G. Willow Wilson, where the people of Gotham City turn against Mayor Pamela Isley, causing her to lose control. This leads her to take charge in a different way, as shown in the first chapter of the crossover event, Batman: Bad Seeds – Sunset #1.

Poison Ivy is turning Gotham City into a wild, prehistoric jungle, with plants that haven’t been seen for millions of years engulfing buildings and endangering the people trying to survive. To make matters worse, Batman and his allies are already battling Vandal Savage, turning this already strange rescue mission into an incredibly difficult fight.

James Tynion IV is working with Matt Fraction, the writer of Batman, to guide the story between August and October. The creative teams behind Detective Comics, Batgirl, Batwoman, Catwoman, Nightwing, and Harley Quinn will also contribute, helping to complete the overarching storyline.

Batman: Bad Seeds – Sunset #1 and Poison Ivy #47 both hit the shelves on Aug. 26.
