7 Marvel Characters Who Could Host the Speed Force

The Speed Force is a hugely powerful concept in comic books. It was created in the mid-1990s to explain how the Flash was becoming increasingly powerful and to excuse the ways his abilities defied the laws of physics. Essentially, it allowed writers to push the boundaries of speedster powers, letting characters achieve incredible feats. Over time, the Speed Force has become a central element of the DC multiverse and paved the way for the introduction of other similar forces in Flash comics during the 2010s. Because of the Speed Force, the Flash and other speedsters are among the most powerful characters in any superhero universe.

Unlike DC Comics, Marvel doesn’t have a clear explanation for super speed – they often just disregard the laws of physics. However, several Marvel characters could benefit from having access to DC’s Speed Force, a powerful energy source that would amplify their abilities – for better or worse. Here are seven who might be able to harness its power.

7) Super Sabre

Super Sabre is largely unknown today, but he was a mutant hero who fought during World War II. He used his incredible speed to fight against evil forces. Later, he joined the Freedom Force, a team of mutants led by Mystique that collaborated with the government. Super Sabre could run at the speed of sound, and his body was physically enhanced to withstand the strain of moving so fast. With decades of experience using his powers, he had the potential to achieve even greater speeds if connected to the Speed Force.

6) Cannonball

Sam Guthrie, also known as Cannonball, is a surprisingly important figure in the Marvel Universe. He was one of the original New Mutants, later led X-Force, and was the first member of his team to become an X-Man – not to mention, he even served as an Avenger! His power lets him fly at incredible speeds, protected by a field of kinetic energy. If he could tap into the Speed Force, he’d become even more powerful – and considering he’s already mastered controlling his energy blasts and shield, learning to use the Speed Force would likely come easily to him. Having that kind of power might finally get him the recognition he deserves.

5) Speed Demon

Speed Demon is a minor villain from Spider-Man’s rogues gallery. He’s joined villain teams like the Thunderbolts and the Superior Foes of Spider-Man, relying on his super speed to commit crimes. While not the fastest character with super speed, he’s still quite quick. Access to the Speed Force could make him a more dangerous criminal, as there aren’t many heroes who can match that level of speed. He probably wouldn’t become one of the most powerful Speed Force users, but it would significantly increase his speed and make him even more effective.

4) Spider-Man

As a huge Spider-Man fan, I’ve always thought he’s the most down-to-earth hero Marvel has. He’s quick, sure, but definitely not a speedster. Still, if anyone deserves a shot with the Speed Force, it’s Peter Parker. He’s a brilliant scientist, and you know he’d be fascinated. He wouldn’t just run around recklessly; he’d study it, understand it, and learn to use it responsibly to help even more people. Honestly, I think he’d become the most reliable speedster around, and he’d probably even make Barry Allen look a little lazy!

3) Makkari

Makkari is incredibly fast, even for an Eternal – and Eternals are already known for their amazing abilities. These beings are both virtually indestructible and remarkably adaptable, and Makkari specifically transformed into a woman and lost her hearing while attempting to activate the Dreaming Sentinel. She’s always been able to move at unbelievable speeds, but tapping into the Speed Force would unlock even greater potential. Because of her Eternal lineage, she’d likely master the Speed Force’s power quickly, becoming the most powerful Eternal of them all.

2) Silver Surfer

Silver Surfer is incredibly powerful, ranking among the fastest beings in the Marvel Universe. He can already travel faster than light, and gaining access to the Speed Force would only increase his speed. Because he’s familiar with wielding immense cosmic power, adapting to the Speed Force wouldn’t be a major challenge for Norrin Radd. He’s already exceptionally strong, and this addition would amplify his abilities, allowing him to protect even more people.

1) Quicksilver

Everyone focuses on Scarlet Witch, but Quicksilver is actually the stronger sibling. He’s had impressive runs with teams like the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, the Avengers, and X-Factor, making him a well-known hero. For a long time, he was Marvel’s fastest character, though not quite as fast as the Flash. If he had access to the Speed Force, a source of incredible speed, he could reach his full potential. Quicksilver is driven to be the best, and mastering the Speed Force might finally earn him the recognition he craves.
