Marshals season 2: Release date speculation and cast

Although the original Yellowstone series has ended, the story continues with various related shows – like the new series focusing on Kayce Dutton and the world of Marshals.

The show centers around a US Marshal raising his son by himself after his wife, Monica, unexpectedly passes away. Actor Luke Grimes reportedly wasn’t immediately convinced by this storyline when it was first proposed.

My initial reaction was strong dislike for the idea, because it didn’t make sense to me,” he explained to TopMob. “Kayce and Monica were inseparable – their story was a classic tale of love, like Romeo and Juliet. They completed each other, so it was hard for me to understand the concept at first.

Slowly, I began to understand they already had everything they desired. If they continued their life together, raising Tate and staying on the ranch, there wasn’t any room for other possibilities. It seemed best to let them be happy, which meant there were only a few ways to change their future, and this was the only way to create a different one.

Kayce has definitely had his share of problems, and Grimes seems to thrive on that.

He recalled reading the script for the first time in 2017 and feeling strongly that he had to play the role. He thought it would haunt him if he didn’t get the part, potentially being the biggest disappointment of his career. Landing the role, therefore, was a dream come true, and he deeply appreciates the opportunity to play the character.

Sometimes I get overwhelmed thinking about how long this will last and how much work it is. But then I remind myself that I’m playing Kayce, and that makes it all worthwhile. I love being here in the mountains – it’s a dream come true. It’s exactly the kind of role I always hoped for, both as an actor and growing up.

So, will Grimes get to continue living out that dream in another chapter of Marshals?

Has Marshals been confirmed for season 2?

Season 2 of Marshals has been confirmed.

When CBS renewed the show, CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach explained that ‘Marshals’ had quickly become a hit, attracting a large audience across all viewing platforms and proving itself to be a strong new series.

The incredibly positive reaction from viewers shows how captivating the world of Yellowstone is, thanks to the compelling stories and the talented cast, especially Luke Grimes.

When could Marshals season 2 be released?

Logan Marshall-Green, who stars as Cal, recently told TV Insider that filming for the second season was starting immediately and that the team was planning to shoot around seven to eight pages of script each day.

I’m getting really excited because it looks like the next season might be here in 2027, maybe around March, just like the first one! But honestly, the way the creators are talking, it feels like we could get it even sooner – fingers crossed for a pleasant surprise!

Grimes hinted at a major plot twist at the end of the first season. Marshall-Green confirmed that the second season will continue the story immediately after that cliffhanger, both in terms of plot and emotional tone.

“No rest for the wicked,” he added.

Which cast members could return for Marshals season 2?

Naturally, Luke Grimes is expected to reprise his role as Kayce Dutton.

There’s uncertainty surrounding the future of Cal, played by Logan Marshall-Green. He recently received a diagnosis of a rare lung cancer, so it’s unclear what will happen to his character. While we anticipate he’ll be back for season 2, potentially undergoing treatment, there’s no certainty he’ll make it through.

And we could also be saying goodbye to Andrea Santos (Ash Santos), who may relocate to DC.

As for the rest of the cast, the following stars could all return:

  • Arielle Kebbel as Belle Skinner
  • Tatanka Means as Miles Kittle
  • Mo Brings Plenty as Mo
  • Brecken Merrill as Tate Dutton
  • Gil Birmingham as Thomas Rainwater
  • Brett Cullen as Harry Gifford
  • Ellyn Jameson as Dolly Weaver
  • Morgan Lindholm as Maddie
