Prime Video’s show Reacher has quickly become a hit, topping streaming charts since its release. It’s based on the popular Jack Reacher book series by Lee Child. However, another action-packed series adapted from a book is now the most-watched show.
According to FlixPatrol, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan is currently the most popular show to rent or buy on the Apple TV Store in the U.S. The thrilling series is also performing well on Prime Video, appearing in the top 10 lists in Hungary, Nigeria, and Romania. This success follows the release of the movie Jack Ryan: Ghost War.
I’ve always been a fan of Jack Ryan, the character Tom Clancy created in his novels. It’s so cool to see John Krasinski bring him to life – he really embodies that intelligent, resourceful CIA analyst with a military background. I loved watching him play Jack Ryan over four seasons and thirty episodes, and I’m thrilled he’s back now in a new movie to continue the story!
Jack Ryan Has Been Brought to the Screen Many Times
The new series, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, isn’t the first time we’ve seen the character on screen. Alec Baldwin was the first actor to play the CIA analyst, appearing in the 1990 film The Hunt for Red October. Harrison Ford later took on the role in Patriot Games in 1992.
Harrison Ford reprised his role as Jack Ryan in the 1994 movie Clear and Present Danger. However, the next time the character appeared on screen, a different actor took over. Ben Affleck played Jack Ryan in the 2002 film The Sum of All Fears, but he didn’t continue with the series. Later, Chris Pine stepped into the role.
John Krasinski is the latest of five actors to play the character Jack Ryan, who originated in a popular series of books. The TV show Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan was well-received by critics, and its success led to a follow-up movie.
Jack Ryan: Ghost War Received Mixed Reviews
While critics generally liked the original Prime Video thriller, the new sequel has received a more mixed response. It currently has a 44% rating from critics and a 45% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. On IMDb, the movie has a rating of 6.0 based on nearly 5,000 reviews.
Peter Travers of The Travers Take criticized John Krasinski’s performance, saying he couldn’t recapture the energy of his popular TV character in this new, underwhelming movie. Kevin Maher from The Times (UK) described the film as bland, lacking personality, and feeling like it belonged on a streaming service.
Despite mixed reviews for the recent movie, Jack Ryan: Ghost War actually boosted viewership of the original Prime Video series. Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan is now the top show on the Apple TV Store, with many viewers revisiting the series or discovering it for the first time, proving the action thriller remains popular.
