It’s common to hear about online games being removed from stores when their servers are shutting down. But sometimes, even good single-player games disappear from platforms like Steam. That’s happening with two classic fantasy games from the 1990s: Witchaven and Witchaven 2. These games were re-released on Steam and GOG in 2021, but the publisher, SNEG, has announced they’ll be removed from Steam on July 15th. So, players only have a few weeks left to buy them.
The classic PC games Witchaven and Witchaven 2, originally released in 1995 and 1996, became available again on Steam and GOG in 2021. Before that, they were difficult to find and play on today’s computers. However, they’ll soon be removed from sale on July 15th, making them hard to get again. It’s currently unknown if the removal will affect both Steam and GOG, or just Steam. Both games are currently on sale at a discounted price before they’re taken down.
Witchaven Games to Be Removed From Steam (And Possibly GOG)

I remember when Witchaven first came out in 1995! It was based on a tabletop RPG expansion from a couple years before, and it was so cool – a first-person dungeon crawler that really blended action and RPG elements. It felt like the start of something big, and in a lot of ways, it was! When it first came out, people were a little unsure about it, but it did well enough to get a sequel, Witchaven 2, in 1996. I was so excited when both games were re-released on Steam and GOG in 2021, and they even updated the controls to make them feel more modern! It’s a real shame to hear they’re being pulled from Steam again, though. I was hoping these classics would be available for a long time.
So, I just saw the news from SNEG – they’re taking their games off Steam on June 15th. They didn’t really say why, which is a bummer, but the good news is if you already own the games, you’re good to go! Since they don’t have online servers, you’ll still be able to play them just fine. It just means no one else will be able to buy them after that date.

It’s currently unknown if these games will also be removed from GOG. The Steam announcement doesn’t mention which platforms will be affected, and GOG doesn’t typically announce changes to its game library. However, games are rarely removed from only one PC platform, and the big sale on Witchhaven is happening on both Steam and GOG. This suggests the games will likely be taken off both storefronts on June 15th.
Good news for fans of classic games! Both Witchhaven and Witchhaven 2 are currently on sale for their lowest price ever – less than $1 each, or you can get both in a bundle for just $1.50. This is a great chance to try them out or revisit these titles, as they’ll be removed from sale on June 15th. Grab them on Steam before they’re gone!
