**WARNING: This article contains spoilers for Euphoria season 3, episode 7.**
Fans were shocked by a devastating death in season 3 of Euphoria, involving a well-known character from the show.
The newest installments of the HBO thriller are even more intense. The characters we originally met as high school students are now facing increasingly dangerous situations.
In last night’s episode, Nate – played by Jacob Elordi, known for his roles in ‘Wuthering Heights’ and ‘Saltburn’ – died as a result of the debts he owed to Naz (Jack Topalian).
Nate was previously attacked and badly beaten on his wedding night (with Cassie, played by Sydney Sweeney), and his lenders, whom he owed money to, severed one of his toes during the assault.
In the second-to-last episode of the season, Naz and his crew buried Nate alive, leaving him with just a small pipe for air. He might have survived the terrifying ordeal if things had gone a little differently.

Unfortunately, a rattlesnake somehow ended up inside the air pipe and bit the person trapped below – a truly awful way to die. And according to Euphoria creator Sam Levinson, that was the intention.
The writer recently told Esquire that viewers had long wanted to see Nate held accountable for his harmful actions throughout the show. He wanted the consequences to be so powerful that it would make those viewers question their own expectations.
Levinson explained that he focuses on delivering the justice or karmic resolution audiences crave, but with a twist. He aims to fulfill their expectations in a way that’s intensely unsettling, leaving them questioning whether they truly wanted that outcome by the time it arrives.

Levinson concluded: “Those kinds of questions are always exciting to pose to the audience.”
The show’s creator explained how the frightening scenes were filmed, mentioning that actual venomous rattlesnakes were used before Nate’s character died. Of course, a harmless snake stood in for actor Jacob Elordi inside the coffin.
Next week marks the end of Euphoria’s third season. Hopefully, the most dramatic moments are over, but with this show, anything could still happen.
Euphoria is available to stream on HBO Max and NOW.
