Infinity Ward announced they’re developing a new Call of Duty game as part of the Modern Warfare series, promising it will be the ultimate Modern Warfare experience. They also described it as the start of a “new chapter” for the franchise. It’s currently unclear if this new game will be a complete restart of the story, like the 2019 Modern Warfare, or if it will continue the existing storyline.
You can watch the video statement below. After the video, the studio shared a message on social media confirming they are still working on the game and explaining that this represents a fresh start for the Infinity Ward team.
Infinity Ward is dedicated to creating incredibly realistic and engaging combat. As the studio starts a new phase, they’re concentrating on what makes them special: a strong passion for their work, meticulous attention to detail, a relentless pursuit of perfection, and a commitment to delivering top-quality entertainment. Their upcoming game embodies this approach.
As a huge fan, I’m getting seriously hyped! The team at Infinity Ward has poured everything they have into this – they’ve really pushed every single aspect to the absolute max. They’re incredibly proud of what they’ve created, and honestly, I can’t wait to finally get my hands on it and see what they’ve been working so hard on!
This suggests the studio is nearing the official announcement of the next Call of Duty title.
Okay, so before Infinity Ward finally spoke up about the new Call of Duty, the only thing we knew for sure was that it wasn’t coming to PS4. It’s kinda weird though, because they didn’t say anything about skipping the Xbox One, which makes me wonder if Microsoft is trying to make their older console look better by comparison. This will actually be the first time since Call of Duty: Ghosts back in 2013 that a new Call of Duty game won’t be available on PS4 – that’s a pretty big change!
For a while now, there have been rumors that the next Call of Duty game will be called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. A report last month suggested Activision plans to release it in October, and surprisingly, it’s expected to be a complete restart of the Modern Warfare storyline.
Honestly, it doesn’t shock me at all that Infinity Ward wants to start fresh with a new Modern Warfare. Last year’s Modern Warfare 3 just didn’t hit the mark – we only gave it a 5 out of 10 here! While the basic gameplay felt good, the story was a disaster, and those ‘Open Combat’ missions? They ended up being really boring and repetitive. It’s good they’re looking to rebuild and give us something better.
Last year’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 received generally negative reviews after it launched. Experts think low player numbers were caused by a combination of poor choices made by the developers and a challenging gaming market. You can read our full review for a more in-depth look.
