Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 First Look Announced for July 3rd

After its announcement last year at Anime Expo, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is returning to the convention on July 3rd at 7:30 PM PT for a first look. Director Kai Ikarashi, showrunner Bartosz Sztybor, executive producer Saya Elder, and other guests will be on hand for a behind-the-scenes discussion.

Following the success of the first season, Edgerunners, which premiered on Netflix in September 2022 and boosted interest in Cyberpunk 2077, a new, separate story – Edgerunners 2 – is in the works. This next installment will also be ten episodes long and take place in Night City. While a release date hasn’t been announced yet, it might be revealed at Anime Expo.

Details about the story are scarce, though it likely will have a new set of characters. The writer, Sztybor, has described it as a gritty and emotional tale of both redemption and revenge – a departure from his previous work. He’s known for enjoying stories that explore difficult emotions, so this seems to fit his style.

He admitted at last year’s convention, ‘When people are sad, I feel a little bit of happiness.’ While Night City rarely offers truly happy endings – whether you look at the story or the games themselves – it makes you curious to see how the developers are raising the stakes.

I’m really hoping the next Cyberpunk game connects to Project Orion – you know, what everyone’s calling Cyberpunk 2. It’d be awesome if it took us to a completely new city! CD Projekt Red already showed they’re not afraid to link things together – we got Edgerunners references and even a character appearance in Cyberpunk 2077, so it’s definitely possible. But we’ll just have to wait and see what they announce, I guess.
