Virgin Island experts share hopes for season 3 – with an important change when it comes to cast members

Although season two of Virgin Island just finished airing, the show’s team is already eager to return to Croatia and start filming a new season.

Although the BAFTA-nominated series hasn’t been officially renewed yet, creators Dr. Danielle Harel and Celeste Hirschman are enthusiastic and have begun brainstorming ideas for a potential third season.

I was really excited to hear Harel talk about the future of the show on the Spill With Will podcast. He mentioned they’re hoping to include gay men as contestants in season 3, which I think is fantastic! He even said they already have a gay therapist lined up and ready to go, which shows they’re serious about representation. It’s great to see them thinking about inclusivity and bringing more diverse stories to the show.

I was so thrilled to see how well the series did on Channel 4! The first season was a real hit, and it actually broke records with viewers aged 16 to 34 – that’s amazing!

Okay, so I’m a total TV fanatic, and I have to say, the first episode of this show’s first season absolutely crushed it! It became Channel 4’s biggest hit with our age group so far this year – seriously, it beat out shows everyone already loves like Taskmaster, Married at First Sight Australia, and even Gogglebox. That’s a pretty big deal!

The series as a whole was Channel 4’s biggest streaming hit of 2025.

Harel invited openly gay men to visit the island, emphasizing a commitment to safety and acceptance. He encouraged them to come forward and not feel the need to conceal their identity.

Hirschman explained they had hoped to include a gay contestant, but it didn’t pan out. They’re still aiming to get a diverse group of people to the island.

Despite being popular, the series also faced some criticism. Some viewers questioned whether such a private experience, like losing your virginity, was appropriate to depict on national television.

Experts Harel and Hirschman, who co-founded the Somatica Institute and developed the Somatica method, were asked to share their thoughts on whether the show’s portrayal of a character’s sexual exploration was appropriate for television.

Harel explained to TopMob that the shame often comes from keeping sexuality private and hidden. He clarified it wasn’t about public acts, but rather the importance of acknowledging and sharing personal transformations. He believes witnessing these changes, and helping others experience them, is incredibly powerful.

She went on to ask, “What if we weren’t ashamed to talk about sex? Why can’t we discuss it openly, like we do with something like cooking? People enjoy watching cooking shows together, so why is sexuality considered so private?”
