Square Enix recently gave fans an update on Dragon Quest 12, now officially titled Dragon Quest 12: Beyond Dreams, revealing a new logo and a glimpse of the game’s world. However, development has essentially restarted due to team changes and challenges with the original version. The team is rebuilding the game from the ground up, promising exciting new features while still honoring the series’ legacy with character designs by the late Akira Toriyama and music by the late Koichi Sugiyama.
The story follows a new hero plagued by mysterious visions who is searching for answers that could lead to a brighter future, despite potential hardships. The game’s environments – including forests, deserts, and beaches – look visually impressive. We also got a sneak peek at two supporting characters: a tech-savvy woman with a futuristic bike and robot helpers, and a lizard-like warrior. The trailer showed the protagonist bravely facing off against a massive armored dragon.
While it will likely be some time before Dragon Quest 12: Beyond Dreams is released, creator Yuji Horii is confident fans will enjoy the new vision. More updates are expected, hopefully before the series celebrates its 45th anniversary.
