An all-new Dragon Quest Monsters game has been announced, and it’s “coming soon” to PS5.
Despite its unusual Western title, Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World is known as Dragon Quest Monsters 4 in Japan. This means it’s a core game in the series, not a side story or spin-off.
Man, it’s been ages since a new Monsters game came to PlayStation! Seriously, I’ve been waiting forever.
Only Dragon Quest Monsters 1+2, released in Japan for the PlayStation 1 back in 2002, has ever done this.
This represents a significant change for the series. For many years, it’s been mainly available on Nintendo consoles, though the latest game, Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince, was also released on PC a couple of years after initially launching on Switch.
We’ll likely hear more details about The Withered World soon. I expect we’ll see actual gameplay footage relatively quickly, as the recent teaser trailer didn’t reveal much about how the game will play.
