Now that the DC Universe is underway, the number of superheroes we see should grow with each new movie and show. We’ll soon meet Hal Jordan and John Stewart in Lanterns, and films featuring Batman and Wonder Woman are being planned. The Supergirl and Man of Tomorrow projects will also continue to develop the Super Family. While all this points towards the eventual arrival of the Justice League, audiences might get to experience another team of heroes first. Last year, a Teen Titans movie was announced, with Ana Nogueira set to write it. There hasn’t been much news about it since, except for James Gunn dismissing some casting speculation. Now, he’s finally shared a new update.
Someone on Threads asked James Gunn if the rumor about Sam Levinson, the creator of Euphoria, directing a Teen Titans movie was true. Gunn replied that the report is false and that they haven’t even started talking to directors yet, dismissing the source as unreliable.
When Could The Teen Titans Movie Release?

I’ve been following the news about the Teen Titans project, and it sounds like it’s still in the early stages. James Gunn seems to be really focused on getting the script absolutely right before anything else happens – he’s said repeatedly that’s his process. It makes sense to me that they wouldn’t be meeting with directors yet; they want to have a fantastic script in place first. That way, they can find the perfect director who really understands the story they’re trying to tell. It’s a smart approach, honestly, ensuring everything runs smoothly from the start.
Considering everything, a Teen Titans movie is likely at least two years away. DC Studios is prioritizing quality and currently plans to release only one or two theatrical films each year. With Man of Tomorrow and The Batman Part II already scheduled for 2027 (the latter isn’t part of the main DC Universe, but is still a DC Studios project), the next year’s release schedule is full. Beyond that, nothing is confirmed yet. Many projects are currently in the works, so it will be interesting to see how DC Studios’ plans develop.
Just because a movie is announced doesn’t guarantee it will actually be made. Some of the projects James Gunn revealed when introducing the DC Universe’s future plans have been temporarily paused because the scripts aren’t quite ready. This means the timeline for Teen Titans will depend on how the script develops. However, writer Christina Nogueira is a reliable part of the DC Studios team – she already wrote the Supergirl script – so she’s likely making good progress on Teen Titans.
We’re eager to learn what DC Universe has planned for the future. While there’s a possibility of announcements at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, DC Studios might choose to highlight current projects like Lanterns and Clayface if they have a panel. The key thing to understand is that DC isn’t hurrying to introduce the Teen Titans right now, which is a good sign – taking a careful approach often leads to better outcomes. With a strong 2025 already and promising plans for 2026, there’s no pressure to shift direction.
