Details on Death of Jamie Lee Curtis’ Sister Kelly Lee Curtis Shared

New information has emerged regarding the death of Kelly Lee Curtis.

Following Jamie Lee Curtis’s announcement of her sister Kelly’s passing at age 69, the Blaine County, Idaho coroner’s office confirmed to Us Weekly that Kelly died of natural causes. They also stated that she had been receiving hospice care for a week before her death on May 30th.

The coroner’s office stated that Kelly will be cremated, and her husband, John Marsh, was there when they arrived.

Kelly’s sister, Jamie, shared a touching tribute on Instagram after her death, writing, “Aloha to my wonderful older sister, Kelly Lee Curtis. She passed away peacefully this morning, at home, surrounded by nature.”

The Oscar-winning actress fondly remembered her first and dearest friend, describing her as stunningly beautiful and a gifted performer. Beyond her talent, she was a passionate person who enjoyed simple pleasures like playing cards, collecting turtles, and spending time with family in nature. She had diverse interests, from music and bargain hunting to traveling and staying connected online with platforms like Facebook and Pokémon Go. She was proud of her heritage – her Danish and Hungarian Jewish roots – and deeply loved her country.

The actress from Freaky Friday recently shared some photos of herself and her sister taken the night before her 1984 wedding to Christopher Guest.

Jamie described a complex relationship with her sister. They were close growing up, but also competed for their divorced parents’ attention. Though they lived apart for a long time, her sister returned for Jamie’s wedding and stayed nearby ever since. She even worked for Jamie for a while, becoming like a beloved aunt and a crucial part of the family. Jamie misses her sister dearly, but finds comfort knowing she’s now at peace.

Kelly Curtis began her acting career at just two years old, appearing in the 1958 film The Vikings alongside her parents, Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh. Later, after earning her degree from Skidmore College, she joined The Actor’s Studio in New York City, a renowned workshop for serious actors.

Later in life, Kelly and her husband settled in Bellevue, Idaho, where they started a film company called Liberty Films. Through it, they created movies and documentaries focused on local artists, musicians, and the area’s stunning natural scenery, as Jamie shared in an obituary.

The obituary noted that Kelly always ended her messages with a Hungarian blessing, “Isten Veled,” which means “God is with you.” It concluded with a final “Isten Veled” to their “sister of the sun and the moon,” Kelly, and a wish that her memory would be a blessing.
