Masters of the Universe’s Post-Credit Scenes Confirm Major Sequel Plans

Travis Knight’s Masters of the Universe is finally in theaters, bringing He-Man back to the big screen after a 40-year absence. The film, released by Amazon Studios and Mattel, has a respectable score of over 70% on Rotten Tomatoes. Strong positive word-of-mouth will likely be crucial for it to earn back its substantial production costs. While opinions on its quality aren’t the focus here, it’s a genuinely fun fantasy adventure that clearly honors the original toys and cartoon, aiming to please longtime fans. It also smartly updates the story and confidently hints at a sequel with not one, but two scenes after the credits roll. Please be warned: the rest of this article contains MAJOR SPOILERS for Masters of the Universe.

The movie doesn’t have a traditional credits scene, but rather a quick scene immediately after the story ends. This scene features Orko, the beloved floating magician who wasn’t included in the 1987 live-action film. He retells the story of Prince Adam’s return to Eternia. While he’s created with computer graphics, his design closely resembles his original animated appearance. It’s a little disappointing he doesn’t play a bigger role in the movie – there’s already one magical character, Sorceress – and he might have been too much of a distraction. Still, it’s a fun nod to fans. Now, let’s talk about the scenes that appear during and after the credits.

Masters of the Universe’s Mid-Credits Scene Reveals She-Ra

While She-Ra isn’t a central character – which is fitting, as the story focuses on Adam – she does appear in a scene after the credits. Queen Marlena (Charlotte Riley) hints at her return, telling Man-at-Arms, “I’d given up hope… Perhaps one day she’ll come back to us too,” before the scene shifts to Etheria, a planet similar to Eternia. We see a large city, seemingly in Etheria’s dangerous Fright Zone, and the camera focuses on She-Ra as a male warrior approaches her. He asks, “Force Captain Adora?” and she responds, “No, not anymore.” The scene ends with a shot of She-Ra’s glowing Sword of Protection.

In the story of Masters of the Universe, Force Captain is a powerful position within the Evil Horde, the group occupying Etheria and led by Hordak. Hordak kidnapped Adora as a child and trained her to be a Force Captain. While He-Man originally set out to rescue her, this version of the story suggests Adora has already learned about her past, turned against the Horde, and begun her journey to become She-Ra. If a sequel is made, it’s likely to show She-Ra reuniting with her family, and Hordak will probably return as the main villain, attempting to recapture and control her once again.

Although we only see She-Ra from the side, she’s wearing her iconic white and gold battle outfit. While her face is mostly hidden, it’s been revealed that British actress Lauren Saliu plays the role. She accidentally shared the news online before it was officially announced. In a now-removed Instagram post, she showed photos of herself in costume on set, and unfortunately, even included a recording of the scene after the credits.

Masters of the Universe’s Post-Credits Scene Sets up Skeletor’s Return

In the final moments of Masters of the Universe, Jared Leto’s Skeletor is defeated when Adam fully unlocks his powers and rebuilds the Sword of Power, destroying his enemy. Skeletor’s skull falls to the ground, appearing to signal his death. However, a post-credits scene reveals Evil-Lyn (Kristen Wiig) returning to where he died—after escaping the battle—and collecting his skull. With a touch of sarcasm, she tells the skull, “You’ve looked better,” before the screen cuts to black, accompanied by Skeletor’s chilling laugh. While the movie doesn’t explicitly promise his return, it strongly suggests Evil-Lyn will find a way to bring him back to life.

The way Skeletor might be brought back to life could be similar to how Adam returned from death. In the original cartoon, Skeletor wasn’t permanently killed – he was always defeated and sent back to Snake Mountain. However, in Masters of the Universe: Revelation, Adam accidentally destroyed himself and Skeletor while absorbing all of Eternia’s magic. Although Skeletor seemed gone, a small piece of his spirit survived within Evil-Lyn’s staff. Since Adam was able to return from the afterlife (Preternia) when magic was restored, that remaining fragment of Skeletor’s soul could be how Evil-Lyn brings him back.
