After nearly forty years, audiences will finally be able to experience Eternia on the big screen in June 2026. “Masters of the Universe” is an exciting story that reveals the beginnings of Adam, also known as He-Man, and features both familiar heroes and villains from the original movie and TV series.
I just saw Masters of the Universe 2026, and honestly, I loved it! Even though some early reactions were a bit mixed, I thought it was fantastic. Nicholas Galitzine really nailed the role of Adam, and the whole cast was amazing – Camila Mendes as Teela and Idris Elba as Man-At-Arms were particularly great.
Jared Leto delivers a memorable performance as Skeletor, playing the villain with over-the-top energy that feels straight out of a comic book – it’s both funny and genuinely menacing. The movie really leans into how strange and fantastical the world of Eternia would be, creating a rare mix of futuristic science fiction and classic fantasy.
The plot of Masters of the Universe is simple and the ending is clear. However, the scenes after the credits suggest a sequel is possible and hint at some exciting new characters if one happens. The movie is generally easy to enjoy, but it does include a few surprising deaths, one of which is particularly impactful.
As a huge fan of Masters of the Universe, I have to say the title is packed with references to the existing backstory – and it really throws a curveball by making one character way more important than anyone anticipated. Fair warning, we’re about to get into major spoiler territory, but I want to share some of the biggest reveals, new characters, and shocking deaths the film has in store.
Masters Of The Universe’s Biggest Deaths
Skeletor Kills Moss Man
Viewers familiar with the classic Masters of the Universe stories will be glad to see Moss Man in the new movie, even though he has a small part. He’s consistently shown as a friend to He-Man, but unfortunately meets a rather unpleasant end.
Adam manages to break free from Skeletor, rescuing Teela, her father, and the powerful Sword of Power when he returns to Eternia. Furious, Skeletor gathers the Eternian prisoners and chooses Moss Man to make a point. He attacks Moss Man with his staff, instantly killing him and leaving nothing but a pile of plant matter behind.
Adam Accidentally Kills His Father, King Randor
A particularly touching moment in Masters of the Universe happens when Adam is reunited with his father, King Randor (James Purefoy), after being separated for 15 years. Learning that Skeletor has captured his father, Adam bravely decides to confront him directly.
Adam puts up a good fight, but he’s facing too many enemies, and Evil-Lyn uses her magic to make things even harder for him. While battling Skeletor, he unintentionally strikes a wall with his sword, causing the ceiling to collapse and tragically injure his father.
After being held captive by Skeletor for years, King Randor was already very weak. Adam tried to rescue him from the debris, but the King sadly died after only being able to say a few words.
Roboto Is Destroyed By Trap Jaw (But Gets Rebuilt)
While not as major a threat as Skeletor or Evil-Lyn, Trap Jaw is still a well-known villain in the world of Masters of the Universe. He’ll be a strong opponent in the 2026 movie, and is tougher than many people realize.
In the movie’s climax, Trap Jaw attacks Duncan and Roboto while they’re in a flying vehicle. Roboto is destroyed by gunfire, but his head survives. Later, Duncan manages to rebuild Roboto, restoring his iconic look with the clear front and visible gears fans love.
Duncan Finally Defeats Trap Jaw
In the new Masters of the Universe movie, Trap Jaw and Duncan face off in two battles. Early in the film, when Adam is a child, Duncan bravely tries to defend King Randor and his family, successfully fighting off many attackers. However, Trap Jaw presents a particularly dangerous challenge.
Duncan and Trap Jaw face off in a one-on-one battle. While Duncan initially appears to be winning, Trap Jaw eventually triumphs, though Duncan manages to survive.
After Trap Jaw beats Roboto, the two fighters face off again in a brutal, close-quarters battle inside a flying ship. The fight ends when Duncan shoves an explosive into Trap Jaw’s mouth. Though Trap Jaw’s body isn’t shown, the ship explodes in a huge fireball, strongly suggesting he perished in the blast.
Adam Destroys Skeletor – But The Villain Is Teased To Return
The epic conclusion of Masters of the Universe takes place at Castle Greyskull. Teela clashes with Evil-Lyn, and Adam battles Skeletor. The fight is fierce, but He-Man delivers a powerful blow to Skeletor, knocking his head right off!
The movie concludes with Skeletor’s defeat, but a scene after the credits suggests he might not be completely gone. Evil-Lyn appears and takes his skull, taunting it before concealing it within her cloak as she departs.
Masters Of The Universe’s Biggest Surprise Cameos & Characters
1987’s He-Man Actor Dolph Lundgren Makes An Appearance
Much of Masters of the Universe focuses on Adam’s everyday life on Earth. He feels like an outsider, as those around him don’t believe his tales of Eternia or his search for the powerful Sword of Power.
Adam went to the gym hoping to feel inspired, and unexpectedly found himself in a memorable scene. He bumped into Dolph Lundgren, the star of the 1987 film Masters of the Universe. Looking fit and healthy, Lundgren gave Adam a pep talk, subtly referencing the classic movie.
The First Credits Scene Introduces Orko
Orko is a popular character from the Masters of the Universe franchise. He’s a Trollan, which means he looks like a tiny, floating being, often seen wearing a pointy hat and robes like a wizard.
The Trollan isn’t a major character in the movie itself, but he makes a brief appearance after the credits roll. Similar to the original series where Orko always said goodbye to viewers at the end of each episode, he does the same in the 2026 film. The Trollan’s final line, something like “Until next time,” suggests the possibility of another movie in the future.
She-Ra Debuts In The Second Credits Scene
The movie Masters of the Universe actually has two scenes after the credits finish rolling. They hint at potential storylines for a follow-up film, and the most exciting reveal is likely She-Ra.
She-Ra’s appearance is intentionally mysterious; we only ever see her from behind, identifiable by her famous red cape. Her Sword of Protection is also a key feature, easily distinguished from Adam’s Sword of Power by the blue gem in its handle, which is a unique design element.
Masters Of The Universe’s Biggest Spoilers & Reveals
Adam Almost Dies After Being Stabbed By Skeletor
The final battle in Masters of the Universe features a fierce confrontation between Adam and Skeletor. However, Adam begins the fight without his Sword of Power, which Skeletor has already taken.
In the midst of the battle, Adam reaches for the weapon, but Skeletor quickly destroys it with a blast from his staff. The Sword of Power is completely shattered into fragments. Skeletor then seizes the broken hilt, still with a shard of the blade attached, and fatally stabs Adam in the chest.
A powerful memory of the sorceress suddenly floods Adam’s mind, and he understands that the broken Sword isn’t what gives him his strength. He removes the blade from his chest and, at last, transforms into He-Man, changing the course of the epic battle.
Dian Is A Main Member Of He-Man’s Team
The new Masters of the Universe movie pays tribute to the original series with familiar heroes and villains. It also includes a surprisingly deep cut – a character that even dedicated fans of the He-Man universe might not recognize.
Christiaan Bettridge portrays Dian in the movie Masters of the Universe. The film shows Dian used to bully Adam as a child, and she has a noticeable part in the story. While her powers aren’t fully explained, she skillfully fights off several opponents using a pair of handguns.
Dian isn’t a central figure in the story, but she’s a memorable character, and it remains to be seen if she’ll appear in any future installments.
Cringer Gets His Armor
Cringer is Adams’ loyal cat, though he’s easily frightened. We first meet him as a kitten when Adam is a child. Later in the movie, Adam and Cringer are reunited, and Cringer has grown so big that both Adam and Teela can ride him during battles.
Similar to how Adam becomes the powerful He-Man, Cringer transforms into the armored Battle Cat. In the 2026 movie, Cringer’s transformation doesn’t appear to depend on Adam, but we do get a quick glimpse of Battle Cat at the very end.
Evil-Lyn Survives For A Potential Sequel
We’ve discussed the significant deaths of characters in Masters of the Universe, but one key villain wasn’t defeated. She’s actually likely to be a central antagonist if a Masters of the Universe 2 is ever made.
Evil-Lyn is a strong magic user who helps Skeletor and fights Teela in the movie’s climax. During the final battle between Adam and Skeletor, she slips away unnoticed. She reappears after the credits, collecting Skeletor’s skull and making a sarcastic remark about his defeat.
The Origins Of He-Man’s Name Explained
A running gag in Masters of the Universe is that Adam surprisingly remembers details about Eternia from before he lived on Earth. When he returns with Teela, he encounters people he recalls from his childhood, but hilariously, he’s forgotten their names and gives them new ones.
Toward the movie’s conclusion, Teela playfully questions Adam about his habit of giving unusual names to others, then asks if he has a special name of his own. Adam cautiously reveals his is He-Man. When pressed for an explanation, he admits he simply wanted a strong, masculine name and felt ‘He-Man’ fit the bill.
It’s funny and on-brand, from the same character who names his Eternian friends Fisto and Ram Man.
