Get ready for the latest installment of Scary Movie! The sixth film in the series arrives in theaters on June 5th, and it brings back some familiar faces – Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Anna Faris, and Regina Hall – to battle Ghostface and deliver plenty of laughs.
Marlon, who co-wrote and produced the first, second, and sixth films with Shawn, described seeing the cast again as feeling like a high school reunion.
Like past Scary Movie films, this one pokes fun at popular horror movies, including recent hits like Get Out, M3GAN, Sinister, Smile, The Substance, and Weapons. Marlon says they included everything they could think of, as long as it was funny.
According to Paramount Pictures, nothing is off-limits in this new movie – no horror trope is safe, and the Wayans are back to satirize cancel culture.
Ultimately, the stars hope to make audiences scream with laughter.
Marlon told Fandango he hopes his work will help people relax and enjoy a good laugh. He believes the world is too negative right now, and we all need to connect with each other. He sees laughter as a way to heal and improve how we feel, explaining that while he can’t fix the world, he wants to brighten people’s day.

Besides the original stars, Anthony Anderson, who appeared in Scary Movie 3 and 4, and Carmen Electra, from the first and fourth films, are also back for the new movie.
At the Scary Movie 6 premiere in Los Angeles on June 3rd, Carmen Electra, known for Baywatch, told Will Marfuggi of TopMob News that the first Scary Movie was a turning point for her. She explained that it proved she had a good sense of humor and showed audiences a side of her they hadn’t seen before.

Shawn Wayans got the idea for the movie after watching popular ’90s slasher films with young, attractive actors. He started writing the script, and Dimensions – the studio behind many of those very films – liked it so much they bought it before he even finished!
Finding the right actress for the part of Cindy Campbell proved to be the biggest challenge in casting, and the role ultimately went to Anna Faris, who was relatively unknown at the time.
Director Keenen Ivory Wayans told Entertainment Weekly that Anna was the most unexpected successful casting choice. He explained it wasn’t a surprise, but rather a fortunate find. He’d seen many actors, but kept rejecting them, which frustrated the casting team, because he had a very specific vision for the role.
Before getting the role in Scary Movie, Anna Faris didn’t have professional headshots or an agent. She admitted to Entertainment Weekly that she was completely unprepared when the director called for action. She turned to her co-star, Jonny Abrahams, and asked him what they were supposed to do, to which he simply replied, ‘Say your line.’

4. Alicia Silverstone reportedly turned down the role of Cindy.
Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer were listed as writers on the film, but they didn’t actually contribute to the final script. This was due to a decision by the Writers Guild of America (WGA) following the pair’s sale of an earlier script, Scream If You Know What I Did Last Halloween, to Dimensions in 1998.
Oh my gosh, you won’t BELIEVE what Friedberg and Seltzer did after Scary Movie! They just kept making hilarious spoofs – Date Movie, Epic Movie, Disaster Movie, you name it! And get this – they always advertised that they had two of the original writers from Scary Movie working on their films. It was like they were saying, ‘See? It’s still got that magic!’ I loved that they kept the team somewhat consistent, it really showed in the jokes!

Although Carmen Electra’s humorous take on Drew Barrymore’s famous early death in the movie Scream generated a lot of buzz, the studio initially didn’t even want to consider her for the role.
Keenen Ivory Wayans explained to EW that people underestimated Carmen, dismissing her as superficial. He felt this was because she was ahead of her time – one of the first celebrities famous for her personality rather than her work. However, Wayans believed the very qualities people criticized were what made her ideal, and he repeatedly tried to point that out.
Before landing the role of Drew Decker, Electra actually tried out for two other parts, including Buffy – a role that ultimately went to Shannen Elizabeth, known from American Pie.

In an interview with EW, Carmen Electra shared that her hair was cut to resemble Drew Barrymore’s character in the film, and that they shot the opening scene all in one night.
Jenny McCarthy was supposedly considered for the part of Drew Decker, but she decided not to take it. She later became known for her role in Scary Movie 3.
The script initially had a very long title: Last Summer I Screamed Because Friday the 13th Fell on Halloween. It was eventually shortened to Scary Movie, a title that was also used as a working title for Kevin Williamson’s Scream.

The director gave the actors a lot of freedom, encouraging them to improvise their lines. Shannen Elizabeth explained to EW that the director, Keenen, told them he’d film the written script first, then let them add whatever they wanted. He planned to use the funniest and most effective takes, and take credit for the final result as the director.
James Van Der Beek briefly appeared in the film, reprising his role from Dawson’s Creek. He playfully said, “Hey, wrong set,” while popping into a window scene as the song “I Don’t Wanna Wait” played – a nod to his famous TV series.
The script initially included a brief appearance by Jamie Lee Curtis, playing her famous character from the movie Halloween.

Originally, the filmmakers hoped Aaliyah would play the character of Brenda, but Regina Hall ended up taking on the role. Aaliyah declined the part because she didn’t want to compete with Brandy.
The singer explained in an interview that she was asked to play a character based on Brandy, essentially a comedic take on her. She liked the script and thought it was hilarious, but she was worried people would think she was trying to make fun of Brandy, so she turned down the role. Ironically, the movie ended up being very funny anyway.
Regina Hall actually auditioned for the role of Brenda four times! She later told Fast Company that a producer initially advised her against doing Scary Movie. While she understands why now, she was determined to take the part at the time, saying she’s glad she didn’t listen – it would have been a mistake to say no.
17. Jared Leto reportedly turned down the role of Bobby in order to star in Requiem for a Dream.

18. Director Keenen Ivory Wayans makes a cameo in the movie in the fake Amistad 2 trailer.
The original Scary Movie had a tagline promising “No Shame. No Mercy. No sequel.” Ironically, the film was so popular that it spawned several follow-up movies. The tagline for Scary Movie 2 cleverly acknowledged this by simply stating, “We lied.”
20. While they penned the sequel, the Wayans brothers left the Scary Movie franchise.
Marlon Wayans told the Chicago Tribune that he and his brothers turned a $19 million movie into a franchise that eventually earned over $500 million. They were quickly asked to make a sequel, which did okay but didn’t live up to the original. He said it was ‘all right.’ They were surprised to later learn that someone else was making Scary Movie 3 without them, and that film wasn’t successful.
