Gamers weren’t happy when Valve significantly raised the price of the Steam Deck – most models jumped by around $300. This made the handheld gaming device much less affordable. The price increase is likely due to higher costs and limited availability of key computer parts, along with general market conditions, and it worried some people about the future of the Steam Machine. However, Valve recently announced a firm release date for its PC/console hybrid. The big question remaining is how much it will actually cost.
Valve announced on June 4th that the Steam Machine and Steam Frame VR headset are expected to release this summer. The announcement focused on helping game developers optimize their games for these new devices. However, as summer nears, many are starting to wonder why the price of the Steam Machine hasn’t been revealed yet.
Steam Machine & Steam Frame Confirmed For Summer 2026, But They’re Likely Going to Cost You

Ever since Valve first revealed the Steam Machine in 2025, people have been wondering how much it will cost. For many, the price will be the biggest factor in deciding whether to buy one. Valve hasn’t yet announced official prices for the Steam Machine or the Steam Frame VR headset. Considering the Steam Deck recently became more expensive, it’s unlikely these new devices will be affordable.
Currently, the only Valve product available is the Steam Controller, which was released in May for $99. While that might seem pricey, it costs about the same as a set of Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons, and only slightly more than a PlayStation 5 DualSense controller. The Steam Controller is available now because it’s less complex than the Steam Machine and Steam Frame, which are still in development. These upcoming devices – a console/PC hybrid and a VR headset – likely require expensive memory components, so we can expect them to be quite costly when they’re finally released.

Early reports indicated Valve originally intended to sell the Steam Machine for around $1000. However, considering recent component shortages have increased the price of consoles like the Steam Deck – which saw a $300 price jump – it’s probable the Steam Machine will end up costing significantly more, possibly around $1300.
Valve is planning to release the Steam Machine this summer. We probably won’t find out how much it costs until pre-orders open – we learned the price of the Steam Controller at that time. Since summer is almost here, I expect to hear more details soon.
