It was so heartwarming to hear Jennifer Aniston and Lisa Kudrow talk about Friends recently! They both seem really keen on the idea of doing something new together, just the women from the show, and honestly, as a fan, that would be a dream come true! It’s lovely to see how much they still enjoy working together and reminiscing about the good old days.
For Variety’s Actors on Actors series, leading comedic performers sat down for interviews. The series brings together actors who are nominated for awards to discuss their careers, both old and new.
Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox were promoting their current TV shows, The Morning Show and The Comeback, but the conversation naturally shifted to their ten years playing Rachel and Phoebe on the hit sitcom Friends.
Fans were thrilled to hear both stars were eager to go back to the classic sitcom style of filming – meaning a show shot on a soundstage, typically with a live audience.
Aniston fondly remembers filming Friends, saying she misses the experience. She especially loved having a live audience, comparing it to the excitement of ‘opening night’ – but happening every week.

Kudrow admitted she wasn’t a fan of performing in front of a live audience back then, but thinks she’d appreciate it more now. She especially liked how quickly they filmed Friends, which was a nice change from the slower, more detailed approach of some other shows.
She admitted that she does miss acting when she’s on set and has downtime. She’s eager to take on another role, but only if the script is well-written.
Traditional sitcoms filmed with multiple cameras aren’t as popular as they used to be. Shows like Hacks, Abbott Elementary, and Shrinking – which use a single camera and often blend comedy with more dramatic elements – have become much more common.
Aniston suggested that they should endeavour to “bring it back”.
“Alright, let’s make it happen!” Kudrow exclaimed. “Wouldn’t it be fun to see a scene with me, you, and Courteney [Cox, who played Monica on Friends]? I wonder what that would look like.”
Aniston added: “Girlfriends. Let’s pitch it.”

Look, I’m trying not to get too excited, but the thought of another Friends project is amazing! Although, Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox just mentioned another idea they had – a podcast where they’d rewatch and talk about the show – that sadly never happened. So, I’m keeping my fingers crossed this new thing actually comes to fruition, but I’m prepared for it to maybe just be another cool ‘what if’ idea.
Just like the popular podcast ‘Office Ladies,’ where Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey rewatch ‘The Office,’ this new project would have featured the actresses from ‘Friends’ discussing their iconic show.
“We were going to do that… That was a great idea,” recalled Aniston. “What happened to that idea?”
Kudrow wondered if the show would even be worth watching, predicting that the actors would probably spend most of the time laughing hysterically at their own jokes.
