Superman & Supergirl’s First DCU Meeting Revealed in Our Exclusive Clip (& She’s Already Mocking his Costume)

The new DCU movie, Supergirl, is coming out in just three weeks, and fans are getting really excited! The film will feature more of Milly Alcock as Superman’s rebellious cousin, plus another look at David Corenswet as Clark Kent. We’ll also see Jason Momoa make his first appearance as Lobo! Based on the acclaimed comic Woman of Tomorrow by Tom King and Bilquis Evely (and with a feel similar to True Grit), the movie is expected to have a strong opening weekend. To give you a sneak peek, we’ve partnered with Warner Bros. to share an exclusive clip – and it’s a great one!

A new clip from Supergirl offers the first look at David Corenswet as Superman within the DC Universe’s timeline. It shows Kara Zor-El’s arrival on Earth – beyond brief childhood footage – and her initial meeting with Clark Kent. She lands near the Fortress of Solitude with her dog, Krypto. Because Kara speaks only Kryptonian and Clark doesn’t understand the language, they struggle to communicate, and Krypto isn’t immediately friendly towards Superman. In a heartwarming moment, Clark tells his cousin, “There’s a lot more to Earth than just this place: big city, lots of stuff to do, and you’ll also learn to love this place, just like I have. I promise.” You can watch the clip here.

What Our Exclusive Supergirl Clip Actually Means

The recent interaction between Kara and Clark in Superman sheds light on the difficulties in their relationship. They experienced vastly different childhoods – Kara struggled with a language barrier and witnessed the destruction of her home planet, while Superman only knew life on Earth. While this isn’t fully apparent in the current clip, previous marketing materials have shown that Kara’s upbringing was filled with trauma and loss on the piece of Krypton she lived on. Learning to embrace Earth will be a key part of her journey, but it’s also crucial to understand her existing personality. The fact that she’s so different from Superman emphasizes her feelings of loneliness and isolation.

The episode offers a great look at Krypto’s fiercely protective nature towards Kara, even when faced with someone clearly good like Clark. This dynamic worked really well in Superman, and it’s great to see it will continue in Supergirl. The scene also highlights the differences between Kara and Kal-El, playfully shown through Kara making fun of his costume. While Kal-El chose his suit as a symbol of hope, Kara immediately questions why he’s wearing what looks like underwear, a line that feels like a knowing nod to the audience, who have wondered the same thing for years.

The scene also reveals how Kara starts developing powers thanks to Earth’s yellow sun. Considering everything she’s endured – including the trauma of being sent to Earth for her own protection (and it’s clear she was sent, as she immediately asks about Superman’s identity) – she now faces a huge challenge: suddenly gaining incredibly powerful abilities. It’s understandable why she’s so troubled when we first meet her. The scene takes place sometime in the past, long enough for Kara to have learned English perfectly, likely with help from the Fortress of Solitude and Superman’s robots. However, since Superman has only been active for three years, she clearly became fluent very quickly.
