Rivals season 2 episode 6 ending explained

What happened to Monica?

The story ends tragically with the revelation that Monica died in a car accident. A tree fell on the car she was traveling in with Caitlin (Catriona Chandler) while they were driving to the O’Haras’ house.

While Caitlin made it out alive and with only minor injuries, Monica didn’t survive.

Declan O’Hara (Aidan Turner) and Rupert Campbell Black (Alex Hassell) locate her, and Rupert then tells Tony, who is utterly shocked and falls to the floor.

Monica’s death is especially sad because it happens right after a high point in the episode – she finally decides to leave her awful husband, Tony.

When Monica found out about her husband’s latest affair with Maud O’Hara – revealed by Maud’s son, Archie – she’d finally had enough. Braving a storm, she went to talk to Lizzie, and the two women shared their experiences with unfaithful husbands. They both agreed they deserved happier, more fulfilling lives.

Monica firmly decided she wanted a divorce and went home to tell Tony. Afterwards, she drove to pick up Caitlin, but their journey ended in a devastating accident.

How was Tony and Maud’s affair revealed?

The affair between Tony and Maud became public when Tony shared nude photos he’d taken of Maud with his son, Archie.

Archie, who was learning photography, finished the roll of film and then developed the pictures in his darkroom.

Although the original photos are gone, Caitlin is shocked to find nude pictures of her mother developed on a contact sheet in Archie’s darkroom.

Monica unexpectedly finds them together and sees the compromising photo sheet, promptly throwing it into the fireplace.

What happened to Lizzie and Freddie?

Following her conversation with Monica, who revealed she’d also experienced a secret romance, Lizzie resolved to stop being afraid and start truly living.

Amidst a raging storm, she began writing her new novel, a story about a woman determined to prioritize her own life instead of living for others. The novel unfolds with a backdrop of hidden secrets and public scandal affecting those around her.

She walked out into the storm, letting the wind rush against her skin, and announced she was going to live life to the fullest, with wild abandon.

Keeping her promise, she rushed to find Freddie (Danny Dyer) and confessed she couldn’t live without him. They shared a loving kiss and finally decided to give in to their feelings for each other.

What about Taggie and Rupert?

Amid the storm, Taggie sees that Rupert’s horse has escaped.

So, she heads out to give him back his stuff, and honestly, it’s pouring rain, but she decides a coat isn’t necessary! She ducks into Rupert’s place to warm up for a bit, and Cameron? He’s totally giving her the side-eye the whole time. It’s a funny little moment, really.

Rupert gave Taggie a ride home, and the journey was a bit awkward. He ended up deciding to spend the night because the storm was too bad to drive in.

It’s obvious Cameron and Rupert are attracted to each other, even though they’re trying to downplay it. Cameron, however, appears frustrated that Rupert is still hung up on someone else.
