Unlike Other Sony Exclusives, Wolverine PS5 Will Launch with New Game Plus Day One

Sony has found success with adding a New Game Plus mode to games like Ghost of Yotei and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, typically a few weeks after the game initially launches.

This feature aims to encourage players to continue playing the game. It’s often released with new updates and achievements, helping to maintain long-term player interest.

When Marvel’s Wolverine launches, it will immediately include New Game Plus – and for those who prefer physical copies, it will be available directly on the Blu-ray disc.

Quizzed by Eurogamer.net about replayability, Game Director Mike Daly explained:

We’re including a New Game Plus feature on the disc. This lets you immediately replay the game after finishing the story, and we designed it to be just as enjoyable as your first playthrough. We’ve increased the pace and intensity, and added some new unlockables to make the second time around feel fresh and exciting.

It appears New Game Plus will offer extra unlocks and new content to make replaying the game enjoyable. According to Daly, Insomniac Games is aiming to make players want to complete the story a second time.

Besides New Game Plus, you’ll be able to replay all levels with extra challenges focused on getting a high score. Successfully completing these challenges will earn you collectibles, crafting materials, and even new types of whiskey to add to your collection. Sounds interesting, doesn’t it?

This feels reminiscent of classic Insomniac Games design. Veteran players might remember that older Ratchet & Clank and Resistance titles featured challenges similar to modern achievements, encouraging multiple playthroughs and full completion of levels long before Trophies existed.

Since Marvel’s Wolverine is a fairly straightforward game, the developers have focused on adding features to encourage players to play it again, which is a smart move.

I’m excited to see everything Insomniac has in store on launch day – and beyond.
