Anna Faris Denies Shading Cameron Diaz With Lost in Translation Role

There was a lot of unnecessary discussion about how Anna Faris did in Lost in Translation.

The actress recently explained that the idea that she modeled her character Kelly in Sofia Coppola’s 2003 film, Scary Movie, after Cameron Diaz is not true, ending a rumor that has circulated for decades.

On the June 4th episode of Josh Horowitz’s podcast, Happy Sad Confused, Anna revealed she’d always been slightly bothered by people thinking she was playing Cameron Diaz.

She explained that it diminished the impact of her performance, especially since she’d worked hard to earn the role through an audition. She always believed it wasn’t some kind of intentional, strange undermining of her work.

I was just thinking about Cameron Diaz being on Anna Faris’s podcast back in 2021, and it struck me that was actually my chance to talk to her directly and clear up any misunderstandings. It’s a bit frustrating now, looking back, that I didn’t take that opportunity!

“Cameron came on my podcast, because I had read in an article that she was, that her feelings were hurt,” Anna said, “and then I never had the courage to ask Sofia to clarify it for me.”

When Josh asked Anna if she and Cameron had talked about the drama, she admitted they hadn’t directly addressed it.

“Only kind of,” she confessed. “Maybe should we clear the air on this podcast.”

Anna explained she only had a short time to talk to her – just twenty-five minutes. She wasn’t sure how to begin, wondering if she should immediately apologize for something she hadn’t done.

Actress Anna Faris recently opened up in an interview as she promotes her new movie, Scary Movie 6. She brought her son, Jack, 13, to the film’s premiere – a rare public outing for the mother and son, who she shares with her ex-husband, Chris Pratt.

And having the support of her son means everything to Anna.

Last year, Anna told TopMob News that whenever her son asks for her advice, or confides in her, it makes her feel incredibly grateful and reassured that she’s parenting well. It doesn’t happen often, but those moments are really meaningful to her.

Anna and Cameron recently cleared up a misunderstanding about a rumored rivalry. But they’re not the only celebrities who’ve had public disagreements – here are some other famous feuds…

In January 2024, Bobby addressed speculation about a disagreement with Tan, following his announcement in November 2023 that he was leaving Queer Eye after eight seasons. (Bobby is pictured second from left.)

He assured Vanity Fair that he and Tan are doing okay. He explained they went through a personal issue, but it’s separate from their work on the show and wasn’t related to a romantic connection. He emphasized it was a private matter that had been building up over time.

In March 2024, Tan addressed claims that he tried to get his friend Jeremiah Brent to replace Bobby on the show Queer Eye.

Netflix and the production team held extensive auditions. I didn’t recommend my friend for the role, but they ultimately got it because they were the most qualified. I also want to clarify that I didn’t help them get the part by having anyone else removed from consideration, as he explained in an Instagram post.

During a September 2023 game of “Stir the Pot” with her daughter, Kelly Osbourne, on TopMob News, Sharon Osbourne revealed that she considered Danny Masterson, known from “That ’70s Show,” to be the rudest celebrity she’d ever encountered. She described him as a very rude and unpleasant person.

He did not respond to her remarks publicly.

Five years ago, Sharon shared on Larry King’s show that Ashton seemed annoyed when he was a guest on The Talk in 2014, after she mispronounced his name.

She remembered him asking, ‘Who are you and what have you accomplished in this field?’ She responded sharply, telling him, ‘Don’t underestimate me, because I will completely overwhelm you.’ She finished by saying, ‘You have no idea what you’re up against, young man.’

In August 2022, Cassadee Pope and Maren Morris publicly disagreed with Brittany Aldean, wife of country singer Jason Aldean, after Brittany posted a video on Instagram. In the video, she thanked her parents for not allowing her to transition genders during a phase where she preferred traditionally masculine interests, stating she now enjoys a feminine lifestyle.

In a 2022 TikTok trend, JoJo Siwa called Candace Cameron Bure the “rudest” celebrity she’d met, explaining that Bure once turned down her request for a photo on the red carpet. Soon after, Bure publicly apologized, saying she regretted hurting Siwa’s feelings when she was younger and was truly sorry for not taking the picture.

Candace and the other person resolved their differences. However, when asked months later if her network, Great American Family, would ever feature same-sex couples as the main characters in its holiday movies, she said it wouldn’t, explaining that the network would continue to focus on traditional marriage.

JoJo, who publicly shared they are part of the LGBTQ+ community in 2021, said on Instagram that the actress’s comment was offensive and caused pain to many people.

In June 2021, Courtney Love claimed Olivia Rodrigo had copied the album cover art for her band Hole in a promotional photo without giving credit. Olivia simply responded with a message of support, saying “Love u and live through this sooooo much.” Courtney then playfully replied, thanking Olivia and offering to share the contact information for her favorite florist in London if Olivia messaged her directly.

While on Watch What Happens Live, actor Henry Winkler was asked about a reported conflict with Tom Hanks during filming of their 1989 movie, Turner & Hooch.

I directed the movie for thirteen days, and then Jeff Katzenberg, the producer, called me into his office and told me to go home, saying I had everything I needed.

Winkler and Hanks’ dog seemed to get along famously. “I really loved that dog,” Winkler said, “we had a great connection.”

He also refused to admit if he’s even seen the flick.

“You know what you did!”

Anyone who watched The Hills likely remembers that famous line from Lauren, spoken at the start of season three. The drama between them began when Heidi started dating Spencer Pratt, and it really exploded when Lauren claimed Heidi and Spencer spread a false rumor about her and her then-boyfriend, Jason Wahler, alleging they had made a sex tape.

Tyrese and Dwayne Johnson had a public falling out in 2017, starting with an Instagram post where Tyrese criticized Dwayne after the release of Fast & Furious 9 was delayed until April 2020. On the same day, a spin-off movie featuring Dwayne and Jason Statham was announced, slated for release in 2019. Shortly after, Tyrese said he would leave Fast 9 if Dwayne remained involved.

Tyrese recently discussed the conflict with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, telling Van Lathan on The Red Pill podcast that they still haven’t spoken directly, though he hopes to. He mentioned he did talk to one of Johnson’s producing partners, but not Johnson himself.

Tyrese admitted he shouldn’t have publicly shared frustrations on behalf of others involved with the franchise, saying it was unprofessional and a mistake on his part. He explained he was the only one who spoke out, and he takes responsibility for that.

No more bad blood here.

Taylor Swift and Katy Perry were famously feuding for years, and many believed the conflict inspired Taylor’s song “Bad Blood.” The disagreement, which started with issues over a dancer and competition between their tours, finally ended when Katy sent Taylor an olive branch as a peace offering before Taylor’s Reputation Tour began.

Taylor shared in an Instagram video that she found a real olive branch in her dressing room, saying it meant a lot to her.

Taylor captioned the video, “Thank you Katy.”

For years, Kim Cattrall and Sarah Jessica Parker, stars of Sex and the City, successfully avoided rumors of a disagreement. However, those rumors resurfaced when Kim chose not to participate in a third movie and subsequently made some pointed comments about her co-star.

During a September 2017 episode of Watch What Happens Live, Andy Cohen asked Sarah Jessica Parker how she felt about Kim Cattrall telling Piers Morgan that they had only ever been coworkers, not friends.

She was really upset about something, saying she was heartbroken. They had talked about it the previous week, and she felt it didn’t match her memory of what happened. She just found the whole situation very disturbing.

It’s upsetting, but I believe what truly connects us is the unique experience we all shared. It started as a professional collaboration, but over the years, it became deeply personal. I hope that shared history and the special connection people felt with it will outweigh any recent disagreements. Having spent so many years doing something meaningful together was a real privilege.

And though they didn’t film scenes together, Kim did make a small appearance on And Just Like That.

Elton John and Madonna have been publicly disagreeing since 2004. The conflict began when Elton, while accepting an award at the Q Awards that year, criticized Madonna’s live performances. He famously said, “Madonna, best live act? Absolutely not!” and questioned her use of lip-syncing, suggesting anyone who lip-syncs during a paid concert shouldn’t be allowed to perform.

The actress, formerly on Grey’s Anatomy, caused a disagreement with the show’s creator back in 2008 when she asked to be removed from Emmy Award consideration. She explained that she didn’t think her storylines that season were strong enough to deserve a nomination.

Shonda Rhimes discussed Katherine Heigl’s departure in a 2012 interview with Oprah Winfrey on Oprah’s Next Chapter. She admitted it was both hurtful and expected. “When someone consistently demonstrates their true character, you should believe them,” Rhimes explained. “I’ve really taken that to heart and it’s been a valuable lesson for me.”

The fight between Nicki and Cardi at the Harper’s Bazaar Icon party during New York Fashion Week became a major news story. A month later, Cardi publicly explained what caused the argument with Nicki.

Cardi B recently told W magazine that another person has been repeatedly criticizing her. They had talked twice before and seemed to resolve things, but the criticism continued.

The conflict truly escalated when Cardi B noticed Nicki Minaj had reportedly reacted to a tweet criticizing Cardi’s parenting, though Nicki claims she didn’t actually engage with it.

Cardi B explained she turned down a potentially hugely profitable Bruno Mars tour so she could be with her daughter, and she doesn’t regret it. She emphasized how much she loves her daughter and considers herself a dedicated mother. She found it frustrating that someone without children would criticize her for prioritizing time with her family, especially since opportunities to meet artists are rare and don’t happen casually.

The conflict between Kanye West and Taylor Swift began in 2009 when Kanye interrupted her acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards. They later reconciled and became friends, but their relationship fell apart in 2016 after Kanye released his song “Famous,” which included a reference to Taylor.

Okay, so you will NOT believe this. February 2025 – the DAY BEFORE the Grammys! – Kanye just
followed Taylor on Instagram. That’s it. Just her. He didn’t say a WORD, not a single caption or anything, and Taylor hasn’t even acknowledged it publicly. I’ve been refreshing both their pages every five minutes, honestly. It’s EVERYTHING. What does it MEAN?! I’m losing it!

“I don’t know her.”

The rumored rivalry between Mariah Carey and Jennifer Lopez began in 2003 during a German television interview. When asked about Jennifer Lopez, Mariah Carey famously stated, “I don’t know her.”
