Superman and Spider-Man are two of the most iconic characters in pop culture history. Superman, debuting in 1938, essentially created the modern superhero, setting the standard for costumes and heroic values. Spider-Man followed in 1962, offering a relatable contrast with a hero who struggled with everyday problems like money and loss, appealing to teenage readers. Together, these two characters expanded the possibilities of the superhero archetype, and the actors who portrayed them—like Christopher Reeve, who brought a unique warmth to Superman, and the various Peters Parker (Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland)—became strongly associated with those roles in the public’s mind. Even with different interpretations—Henry Cavill’s serious Superman and David Corenswet’s hopeful one—these characters continue to resonate with audiences.
Aside from famous actors, a few performers secretly achieved something remarkable: they voiced both Superman and Spider-Man. This often happened in animated projects or video games, where it’s easier to juggle schedules and appearances. Voice directors could focus on finding the best voice for the character without worrying about physical appearance or live-action constraints.
4) Troy Baker

Troy Baker is famous for his roles as Joel in The Last of Us and Two-Face in the Batman: Arkham games, but he’s also voiced many other iconic characters, including Superman and Spider-Man. He played a unique version of Spider-Man – a Wild West cowboy – in the animated series Ultimate Spider-Man, which aired on Disney XD from 2012 to 2017. This Peter Parker, complete with a poncho and bandana, still carried the same emotional struggles as the classic hero, making it a compelling performance. Baker also lent his voice to Clark Kent in the 2014 video game Infinite Crisis.
3) Jack Quaid

Jack Quaid is widely recognized for his role as Hughie Campbell in The Boys, but he’s also voiced several superhero characters. In Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, he provided the voice for Peter Parker from Earth-65, a version of the character who briefly turns into the Lizard and tragically dies before understanding what’s happening. Also in 2023, he began voicing Clark Kent/Superman in the animated series My Adventures with Superman, which follows a young reporter balancing his identity with his powers and his relationship with Lois Lane. The show’s lighter approach has proven popular, even leading to a spin-off series, My Adventures with Green Lantern.
2) Yuri Lowenthal

Yuri Lowenthal is known for voicing iconic heroes. From 2006 to 2008, he played a young Superman in the animated series Legion of Super-Heroes, set in the 31st century. He voiced the character for all 26 episodes, portraying Superman as someone gradually developing his strong sense of right and wrong. Over a decade later, he began voicing Peter Parker in Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Spider-Man series, starting with the 2018 PlayStation 4 game and continuing through Spider-Man: Miles Morales and the 2023 sequel. This version of Spider-Man is a seasoned hero, eight years into his career at age 23. Lowenthal also brought this version of Peter Parker to life in the 2023 animated film Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse with a cameo appearance.
1) Nicolas Cage

Nicolas Cage has a surprisingly extensive history with both Superman and Spider-Man. His connection to Superman began with Tim Burton’s unmade film, Superman Lives, where he was cast but the project never started. He later voiced Superman in the animated film Teen Titans Go! To the Movies, and more recently played a live-action version from an alternate reality in The Flash. Similarly, Cage first portrayed Spider-Man as Spider-Man Noir in the acclaimed animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, a role he then expanded upon in the live-action Prime Video series Spider-Noir, where he plays a retired superhero turned detective in 1930s New York. With four different interpretations of these iconic characters – in both animated and live-action formats – Cage has become a unique figure in the worlds of Marvel and DC.
