Maps are essential in role-playing games. They help you keep track of quests, find shops, and explore the game world, ultimately saving you time and hassle. While many modern RPGs give you a map right away, Gothic 1 Remake does things differently.
This role-playing game doesn’t offer much guidance, encouraging you to discover the world and learn from its characters through exploration and conversation. You won’t start with a map, but you can find one relatively quickly. This guide will show you where to find the map seller and how to buy maps in Gothic 1 Remake.
Where to Buy Maps in Gothic 1 Remake
Once the initial cutscenes are over, you’ll be able to move around the Colony freely. Before you start exploring, it’s important to talk to Diego until he’s said everything he has to say. He’ll give you helpful background information and act as your first guide to the area.
When you’re ready to proceed, take the dirt road leading downhill from where you started. You’ll come across some Scavengers and a few characters you can talk to. The Scavengers aren’t very strong, so you can fight them for extra supplies or items if you want. Otherwise, just keep following the road to avoid a fight.
Continue along the path until you see a bridge on your left. You’ll know it’s the right one because two guards are standing watch. Cross the bridge and keep following the road. Soon, you’ll reach the main gate of the Old Camp.
Two guards are stationed at the camp gate. When you get close, one will stop you and ask why you’re there. Be sure to tell him you want to enter the Old Camp and that Diego sent you. This should be enough for him to let you pass without any trouble.
Once you enter the Old Camp, turn right. You’ll see Graham, an NPC, standing with other people. He’s the Colony’s mapmaker and your main source of maps at the beginning of the game. Talk to him and check what he’s selling. He has maps that will make it much easier to get around, so it’s a good idea to buy them early on, especially if you plan to explore and do quests in different areas of the open world.
Running low on Ore Nuggets? No problem! You can easily earn them at the start of the game. Just collect items you find around the world, defeat Scavengers and sell what they drop, or open chests for valuable trade goods. A little bit of exploring will give you plenty of Ore Nuggets to buy maps from Graham and make future adventures easier.
