I definitely didn’t expect this at the SGF event tonight: Guild Wars 3 is being released on the PlayStation 5.
This is a historic moment – it’s the first time any game in the Guild Wars series has ever been released on consoles, and that’s a significant milestone.
Okay, so this game is still a ways off – the first chance to actually play a beta version won’t be until late next year, which feels like forever! I’m excited, but it’s going to be a wait.
But here’s the general overview so you know what to expect when it eventually launches:
Guild Wars 3 takes place in the wild region of Orr, a land filled with powerful magic. This vibrant landscape is brought to life by Vael spirits – nature beings deeply connected to the land. Different guilds are fighting over how to use or protect Orr’s natural resources. These spirits come in all sizes and have varying levels of influence on the environment, with the Seeker being the most prominent. As shown in the trailer, each player will have their own Seeker, which acts as a connection to the spirits of Orr and serves as a mount for exploring the game’s open world.
I’ve always thought of MMOs as being a PC thing, but honestly, they’ve done really well on consoles too! For me, Final Fantasy 14 is the perfect example of how great they can be on a console – it’s just phenomenal.
Guild Wars 3 looks like it will be a great game to play on the PS5 when it’s released.
