The classic cartoon Masters of the Universe was known for its big battles and surprising plot twists, including the deaths of beloved characters. Some deaths occurred during combat, while others were completely unexpected, or even if you suspected a character might die, the way it happened was still shocking. With the new movie released, we’re taking a look back at each death in the series and ranking them based on how impactful they were, starting with a villain’s demise.
5. Goat Man

After He-Man and his friends arrive at Snake Mountain, we get a good look at Goat Man, hinting at an upcoming fight. The battle finally happens, but despite being strong, Goat Man is no match for the power of Grayskull.
The fight takes place on the edge of a tall platform, and at this moment, He-Man has complete control. He not only breaks off one of Goat Man’s horns, but also throws him off the edge, sending the villain plummeting to his death below.
4. Moss Man

The death of Moss Man is both shocking and particularly harsh. This Eternian hero is captured by Skeletor, and the situation quickly becomes much worse than anyone expected.
Skeletor wants to send a message to anyone thinking of rebelling, so he singles out Moss Man and demands he publicly recognize Skeletor as the rightful King of Eternia. When Moss Man refuses, Skeletor attacks him with his staff, turning him into a pool of bubbling goo. This shocking act deeply upsets the other heroes, particularly Fisto, and is one of the most memorable deaths in the movie.
3. King Randor

While not every death in the story is a surprise, the way someone dies can be truly impactful, and that’s especially true for King Randor. After Skeletor conquers Eternos, it’s unclear what he intends to do with the king. We later find out Randor is actually alive, imprisoned in Skeletor’s dungeon, and Skeletor is holding him hostage to try and obtain the Sword of Power.
Skeletor betrays He-Man and sends his followers, including Goat Man (who He-Man defeats), after him. Evil-Lyn temporarily paralyzes He-Man, but he manages to break free and attack Skeletor with the Power Sword. Unfortunately, the blast causes a section of the ceiling to collapse on Randor. This leads to a touching and revealing conversation between father and son, where Randor shares his true feelings for Adam, before sadly passing away.
2. Trap Jaw

When Prince Adam was a child, he escaped Castle Grayskull while Man-At-Arms bravely defended it from Skeletor’s attack. This led to a fight between Man-At-Arms and Trap Jaw, a battle that deeply affected Duncan throughout the story, as he was defeated and unable to protect the King.
Man-At-Arms finally faces Trap Jaw again after a long struggle, and this time he wins. The fight takes place on Trap Jaw’s ship as it crashes towards the earth. In a fitting end, Man-At-Arms plants an explosive in Trap Jaw’s mouth and escapes before the ship explodes, destroying his enemy. This victory isn’t just revenge for Man-At-Arms; it marks his successful return to power, making it a particularly satisfying moment.
1. Skeletor

The series of conflicts finally culminates in the showdown everyone expected between He-Man and Skeletor, and it doesn’t disappoint. They fight fiercely until He-Man uses the Power Sword to deflect Skeletor’s attacks. But as Skeletor focuses his power on the sword, it breaks apart, giving him the chance he needs to strike He-Man with the remaining piece.
This sets up a continuation of the story where Adam discovers the Sword isn’t the source of his power – he is. When he rises and removes the sword from his chest, it reassembles itself, and He-Man’s power levels surge. He actually fights much of the battle without the sword, overpowering Skeletor with powerful punches and uppercuts. The fight culminates in He-Man delivering a devastating blow that decapitates Skeletor, sending his skull flying. Though Skeletor is defeated, a scene after the credits hints at a possible return in the future.
Masters of the Universe is in theaters now.
