Given the strong relationship between 4A Games and Xbox recently, it wasn’t surprising to see Metro 2039 at their showcase. The game will launch in February 2027 for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC, avoiding the crowded release periods of fall and winter this year.
The latest trailer introduces the Stranger, a new character, who shares his opinions on Hunter, the newly appointed leader of the Metro. Hunter has brought all the factions together under a new regime called Novoreich. The Stranger reflects on Hunter’s past as a skilled fighter, while the trailer also shows quick glimpses of action-packed gun battles.
The game lets you experience life outside the camps, including observing patrols and even sniping enemies from a distance. You’ll also explore the eerie Metro tunnels, where you’ll encounter terrifying creatures best seen with night vision. However, simply killing enemies isn’t enough to survive, especially since the mysterious Dark Ones appear to be influencing the Stranger’s mind.
Metro 2039 aims to be the most emotionally intense and somber installment in the Metro series yet. The developers have drawn on their experiences during the Russia-Ukraine war to craft the story. Early looks suggest the game maintains the series’ famously detailed environments and immersive atmosphere.
