Richard Gere Reacts to Son Homer Gere’s Euphoria Breakout Role

Richard Gere is incredibly proud of his oldest son’s success as an actor, especially after landing a role in the final season of the HBO hit show, Euphoria.

Oh my gosh, if I could have just reached through the screen and told Homer, ‘No, seriously, don’t even think about it!’ I would have. But it was just so sudden, you know? It wasn’t like anyone was pushing him toward it; it just… happened. And he’s so young, only 26! It’s just heartbreaking, telling Will Marfuggi about it while I was trying to talk about the new season of The Agency.

Richard described Homer as a true artist, noting he had degrees in both visual arts and psychology. He explained that Homer approached things differently, and his filmmaking started as a playful hobby – he enjoyed writing, directing, acting in, and generally experimenting with student films just for fun.

The 76-year-old initially had doubts about his son’s acting, but his opinion shifted once Homer showed him the work he’d been doing.

“He showed me what he was doing,” he recalled, “and I said, ‘You are really good.'”

Richard explained that things quickly snowballed for him, leading to roles in Euphoria and another television series. He’s committed to a multi-year, long-form show with Ryan Murphy, and he recently finished filming a movie with Oliver Stone.

This is great news for the Pretty Woman actor, who playfully suggested he can now retire from Hollywood and let his son take over.

Richard, who is a father to Alexander, 7, and James, 6, with his wife Alejandra Silva, joked, “This is perfect for me – I can retire and let him look after me! I’m really pleased about that.”

I was so fascinated by Homer’s experience working on Euphoria! He described filming as a total whirlwind, playing Dylan Reid, and even sharing scenes with Sydney Sweeney as Cassie Howard. He really seemed to enjoy the intensity of it all.

He described his first time working on a movie set to Entertainment Tonight in April, saying it felt like a thrilling challenge. He explained it was like being thrown into the deep end, but in a good way.

“I’m an actor playing an actor playing a character,” he added. “You kind of get lost in it.”

Although he doesn’t rehearse lines with his father, who starred in Runaway Bride, his dad has given him helpful guidance.

Homer explained he doesn’t practice lines with his father, but playfully suggested it would be amusing to rehearse his Euphoria scenes with him. He shared that his dad offers excellent advice, not specifically about acting technique, but more about maintaining a positive attitude and handling situations effectively.
