Patients who allege they were defrauded by the late Perth dentist, Dr. David Hurst, are teaming up with the law firm Slater and Gordon to seek reimbursement of their funds.
As your trusted lifestyle advisor, I personally find myself advocating for 20 previous patients of Dr. Hurst, who are asserting that they were encouraged by him to utilize their retirement savings for costly dental procedures that, unfortunately, did not meet the desired standards of completion or quality.
Some individuals assert they’ve already handed over more than $70,000 in advance for treatments that allegedly didn’t take place, with no signs of receiving compensation so far.

Earlier discussions in this column have highlighted that Hurst’s patients often suffer from persistent pain due to faulty implants, infections, and various unattended complications.
Last December, Dr. Hurst, a Welsh-born man with two children, passed away at the Crown Perth casino, while his wife, cosmetician Clara Hurst, along with their kids, were enjoying a holiday in Bali.
It is said that he took out over $7 million from his dental practice, Perth Dental Rooms, prior to his passing, leaving the business financially unstable.
Previously, he was found guilty of swindling the British National Health Service by submitting fake patient forms, and he was given a suspended prison term in 2012 following his admission of guilt to 69 charges of theft.
After the scandal, he relocated to Australia, a place where his prior criminal charges didn’t prevent him from carrying on with dental practice.
In the process of patients pursuing their insurance settlements, Clara, who manages his estate as a widow, is enjoying the European summer.
Additionally, she’s currently engaged in a comprehensive refurbishment of their Spanish-style abode situated in the western suburbs of Perth, specifically in Claremont. She’s also enlisted the help of renowned interior designer, Phoebe Nicol.
My neighbor confides, “She’s bound to sell it soon. It’s widely known among us that’s her intention.

‘I hope the lawyers put a caveat on the property before she sells.’
Ms Marshman from Slater and Gordon is providing guidance to several past patients of Dr. David Hurst regarding possible lawsuits due to suspected medical negligence, along with potential violations of the Australian Consumer Law related to deceptive practices and faulty dental implants.
After assuming responsibility for these issues, we’ve discovered a concerning trend. Many patients were advised to withdraw from their retirement savings to cover costly dental procedures, yet they were frequently left incomplete, in pain, and financially stranded. This is causing not just disruption and financial hardship, but also long-term distress and anguish.
We’re still evaluating the degree of damage and financial consequences affecting our client base, who have worked with us. A recurring issue is inadequate consent, poor quality work, and insufficient post-service attention.
Regarding your query about Dr. Clara Hurst and any possible limitations, I’m unable to provide any comments at this time.
When I reached out to Clara Hurst for her thoughts on the possible lawsuits initiated by Slater and Gordon, she directed me towards her earlier public statement instead.
As the appointed administrator overseeing my late spouse’s dental practice, I’ve been presented with various prospective claims that have arisen since his passing.
I’ve made sure to properly notify all necessary individuals about any possible claims regarding the estate left by my deceased spouse.
Trainer’s careless talk
On Tuesday morning, I headed over to Surry Hills for my appointment at the lively Barry’s Bootcamp fitness studio.
Instead, I wasn’t at work that day. Rather, I found myself engaged in a discussion with one of the prominent trainers from the well-known club, addressing unfounded gossip she had been circulating regarding her growing popularity.
It appears that Alicia ‘Leash’ Beveridge has been boasting to her clients about being selected for the upcoming season of Nine’s Married at First Sight, which will start filming soon.

When I saw her wearing a tracksuit and trainers upon her arrival at the studio, she didn’t explicitly refute the notion that she had been carelessly discussing her upcoming television show.
‘I guess you could say there are rumours,’ she told me.
She wouldn’t verify whether she had committed to Married at First Sight or not, but she was content to share with me the qualities of her perfect match – “should I ever participate in a dating program.
She expressed her preference for being with someone who is caring and understanding, someone who is patient. Even though she is sober herself, she doesn’t necessarily require her companion to be on the same path.
In March 2023, a woman, who is relatively small and 41 years old, gained attention as she faced a fine of $750 and was prohibited from driving for three months. This came after an incident in December 2022 where she was found with cocaine and alcohol in her system while operating a vehicle.
During the incident, she informed the authorities that she was en route to a gym where she serves as one of the original trainers. She acknowledged consuming a full bottle of red wine and using two lines (of an unspecified substance) the previous day.
As a wellness enthusiast, I proudly refer to myself as an “Endorphin Dealer” on Instagram. My passion lies in helping others discover the exhilarating rush of unleashing endorphins through physical activity, sweating it out, and embracing sobriety.
She publicly celebrated her six-month streak of abstaining from alcohol in a post on Instagram last month. I hope she manages to stay sober during the Married at First Sight dinner party.
Or
In an Instagram update last month, she proudly announced her six months without drinking. Here’s wishing her success in maintaining that streak during the upcoming MAFS dinner party.

Sitting this one out
The massive art fraud centered around counterfeit Marie Antoinette chairs, which caused quite a stir in French society, has now come to an end, and the perpetrators have been penalized severely with heavy fines.
All very Euro trash. So why is it the talk of Melbourne high society?
Due to the public scandal over counterfeit chairs a decade ago, Guillaume Dillée, a French art consultant who happened to be involved, departed from Paris for the city known as the Garden.
From the very instant he landed, a sophisticated French gentleman was warmly received with open arms and affectionate European-style cheek kisses.
Among his supporters were the Myer-Baillieu family, who organized a display of his artwork, as well as Tony Ellwood, the respected director of the National Gallery of Victoria, who purchased Dillée’s works for the gallery’s collection.
2015 saw a remarkable comeback in his artistic abilities for the individual who unwittingly provided four replica chairs, rumored to have been crafted for Marie Antoinette or used by Madame Du Barry, to the esteemed Kraemer Gallery. Notable patrons of this gallery include the Rothschilds, J. Paul Getty, and Karl Lagerfeld.
Kraemer disposed of two sham chairs to Prince Mohammed bin Hamad Al Thani of Qatar for approximately €2 million (around AU$3.25 million or $US2.15 million). Meanwhile, two other chairs were initially under consideration by the Palace of Versailles, but they were returned after a scandal erupted.

As a devotee, I was right smack in the thick of the chair debacle, with the main players being the skillful craftsman Bruno Desnoues and my trusted companion, Bill Pallot – a man renowned at the time as the foremost authority on 18th-century French furniture.
In time, it became known that Desnoues was the craftsman behind the chairs, and Pallot later confirmed their authenticity. Since then, as humorously pointed out, the sole genuine aspect of the entire incident was the money that changed hands.
During the investigation of the art forgery scandal, the esteemed status of France as a hub for exceptional pre-French Revolution artwork suffered significant damage.
It was a quelle horreur moment for the Parisian establishment (Ed-that’s enough).
The investigation took nine years and involved forgers, middlemen and galleries.

It was found that one of the two chairs purchased by Versailles in 2009 ended up with Kraemer through Dillée, a friend of Pallot.
It’s clear that Dillée, along with others, was unwittingly deceived by the fraudsters, and there are no allegations of misconduct against him. We stand by this assessment.
On June 11th, the Criminal Court of Pontoise, which is close to Versailles, declared Pallot and Desnoues guilty for their involvement in fraud and money laundering cases.
Previously incarcerated for four months and ordered to pay a fine of 200,000 euros, Pallot was the one who faced the penalties. On the other hand, Desnoues only received a suspended prison sentence along with a fine amounting to 100,000 euros.
In this case, Gallery Kraemer, who had sold four counterfeit chairs, faced a fine of up to €700,000 as the heaviest penalty. Yet, during the trial, neither the gallery nor its director, Laurent Kraemer, were found guilty on any counts.
After relocating to Melbourne, Dillée set up her own consulting firm, Dillée Art Consultants, and now focuses on painting landscapes.
Real estate rift is the talk of the town
A different kind of split has been the talk of the eastern suburbs in recent weeks.
No, it’s not a marriage bust-up – this one is strictly professional, but it’s no less vicious.
Within elite property circles, there’s been a buzz lately about former buyers’ agents Simon Cohen and Tammy Soglanich deciding to part ways.
For seven years, the duo collaborated at Cohen Handler, a self-proclaimed top Australian property buying agency. However, they unexpectedly ended their partnership halfway through the previous year.

Soglanich decided to establish a competing venture named Aurum Advisory, which targets the affluent districts of Sydney’s eastern region.
It appears that Cohen found the separation far from cordial, as he was annoyed that some of his clients decided to join Soglanich at her new law practice instead.
It seems that despite certain individuals referring to them as such, there appears to be no ongoing legal disputes recorded in the civil courts, suggesting that any involvement of lawyers might not indicate a significant or serious situation.
On Wednesday, I reached out to Soglanich for her comments, and she informed me that she was about to join a meeting and would phone back within 45 minutes.
And that was the last I heard from her.
In some accounts, it appears that the student has outshone their teacher, considering Soglanich initially worked under Cohen and later moved up in the property industry.
Through her connection with Cohen Handler, she was able to list ‘reality TV star’ on her resume when the agency, along with Cohen, played significant roles in the Kyle Sandilands-created Amazon Prime Video show, Luxe Listings Sydney.
Since gaining fame and wealth, the mother-of-one has indeed become a typical resident of the affluent eastern suburbs.
She tied the knot with James Bennett, a real estate agent based on the Lower North Shore. Now, she’s graced the cover of Vogue as a bride, and currently resides in a luxurious $7.2 million house situated in Bellevue Hill.
Oh, and she drives a Range Rover. Of course.
Terry’s solo summer
It’s a yacht girl summer for the well-heeled Aussies living it up in Europe.
On a luxurious yacht, Rugby League WAG Terry Biviano was presenting a striking appearance, accompanied by her accountant-to-the-stars husband Anthony Bell, along with Annika – their new bride, as well as media personality Richard Wilkins and his current companion, makeup artist Mia Hawkswell.
Instead of “Biv’s husband Anthony ‘Mini’ Minichiello, fondly known as ‘The Count’, due to his resemblance to the Sesame Street character, was conspicuously absent as the pair enjoyed their sunset drinks on the rear deck,” you could say:
“On the aft deck, where Biv and her husband Tony ‘Mini’ Minichiello, who resembles The Count from Sesame Street, were relaxing with sundowners, Mini was missing.
It’s possible that he was assisting builders who have been renovating his waterfront villa in Vaucluse for nearly a decade, as their cherished dream house remains unfinished.

45-year-old Minichiello has often shown frustration towards persistent conjecture regarding the slow progress of the project, and typically becomes irritated when queried about the timeline for his family’s relocation.
In the last quarter of 2023, he mentioned that the duration wasn’t anyone else’s concern, yet hinted at planning to establish himself by the end of this year.
‘If I want to take eight years to build a house, then I will,’ he added.
The renovation continues.
