As a researcher, I find myself frequently immersed in the world of Steam, Valve’s robust platform for PC gaming. Compared to console platforms like Xbox, PlayStation, or Nintendo Switch, Steam offers a more straightforward and accessible development process. This simplicity has attracted numerous titles that might otherwise remain unseen on these consoles. The result? A treasure trove of games, many of which have garnered widespread acclaim among PC gaming enthusiasts.
It’s possible that some of these games will be adapted for other platforms in the future, as was recently confirmed with The Cabin Factory. This is a well-regarded short and suspenseful horror game developed by International Cat Studios and published by Future Friends Games.
According to Exophase, a site that monitors game achievements, there’s a hint of an upcoming release for The Cabin Factory on both Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. Interestingly, this achievement page is connected to an inactive Xbox listing on Microsoft Store, suggesting that the game will soon be available on their consoles.
The game titled “The Cabin Factory” was launched on Steam around mid-December last year. It has earned a highly favorable rating on this platform, with 93% of recent reviews and 91% of all reviews giving it a positive nod, symbolized by a blue thumbs-up. A total of 2,596 reviews have been submitted, many of which commend the game’s captivating atmosphere, compelling narrative, and ability to keep players engaged despite its straightforward mechanics.
In this game, your task is straightforward: Investigate pre-made cabins from The Cabin Factory, which have been reported as potentially haunted by customers. Your role as a Cabin Inspector is to visit each cabin and decide whether they are normal or if there are any unusual occurrences taking place within them.
In simpler terms, if you notice any movement of objects inside the cabins, they are considered ‘haunted’. In this case, you should leave immediately and trigger a red “DANGER” alarm. Conversely, if the cabin and its contents remain stationary, it is not haunted, allowing you to press the green “CLEAR” button, even if you find disturbing sights inside.
This game offers a psychological and atmospheric horror adventure rather than one filled with many shocking jump scares. The developers draw inspiration from games like KOTAKE CREATE’s 2023 release “The Exit 8”, Tensori’s chilling and eerie exploration game “POOLS” in 2024, and Kojima Productions’ playable teaser (P.T.) for the notorious canceled Silent Hills.
As you delve deeper, you’ll discover a captivating tale unfolding, reminiscent of timeless fairy stories. However, I won’t reveal any more details about it.
In summary, this is an excellent small game, and what’s even better is its low price of $2.99, which makes The Cabin Factory a more budget-friendly choice than buying a cup of coffee. I’m speculating that the Xbox version will carry the same cost as the Steam one, although it hasn’t been officially confirmed yet.
Currently, there’s no definite information about when this game will be playable on Microsoft’s consoles because the port hasn’t been officially announced yet. However, with the secret being revealed, an announcement might be imminent. It’s also uncertain if it will be released for PS5, PS4, and Switch, but I find it hard to believe that it won’t eventually come out on those platforms as well.
One point I’d like to make is that it seems unlikely the game will be playable via Xbox Game Pass, since there’s no reference to Microsoft’s gaming service on its store page. Considering it costs just $3, I’m not too surprised; however, it’s possible Game Pass availability could still happen, as the program has often boosted visibility for smaller games in the past.
Interested in the fresh Xbox games coming out this week on Microsoft consoles? The standout title is Grounded 2, the much-awaited sequel to Obsidian’s survival game favorite that launched recently on Xbox, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, and PC Game Pass. Additionally, NINJA GAIDEN: Ragebound, a new action platformer, will be available before the release of Ninja Gaiden 4 in October.
