2024 promises to be a great year for gaming, with tons of new titles across all sorts of genres and platforms. Whether you love fast-paced action, immersive adventures, realistic simulations, or challenging strategy games, there’s something coming up for everyone. Here’s a look at some of the most anticipated games of the year, broken down by category.

Action Games

Action games focus on quick reactions, exciting fights, and intense experiences. Here are some promising action titles coming out in 2024:

Tekken 8

Fighting games stand out because they can be both cool and incredibly strange. The latest game from Namco is a great example, boasting a diverse cast of characters – you’ll find everything from cyborgs and leopard-men to muscular, bare-chested martial artists, boxers, and deadly assassins.

Players can practice and get familiar with Tekken 8 in the new single-player mode, Arcade Quest, before competing online. Tekken 8 will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S/X starting January 26th.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

For the last decade, Square Enix has been carefully rebuilding the classic 1997 game, Final Fantasy VII, into a beautiful and impressive three-part series. This is the second game in that series. Follow Cloud Strife and his allies as they struggle to stop Sephiroth, a powerful villain, from destroying the world.

Though updated for a modern audience, the iconic character designs by Tetsuya Nomura and Nobuo Uematsu’s unforgettable music still shine in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. The game will be available exclusively on PlayStation 5 starting February 29th.

Dragon’s Dogma II

Dragon’s Dogma, released in 2012, was a truly unique fantasy game. Inspired by classic fantasy like Tolkien, but with a distinct Japanese style, it brought players to a vibrant and perilous world filled with epic moments and colossal monsters. This new installment revisits that same dangerous realm.

I’m really excited about this new RPG – Dragon’s Dogma II! You get to create a whole team of adventurers, customizing everything from their skills to even how they look, then head out into a dangerous world full of monsters like ghouls and dragons. It’s definitely geared towards players who love a good fight. I can finally jump in on March 22nd; it’s coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S/X, and PC.

Adventure Games

Adventure games focus on discovering new places, experiencing a compelling narrative, and solving challenging puzzles. Here are some exciting upcoming adventure games expected in 2024:

Star Wars Outlaws

Despite some fatigue with the Star Wars universe, Ubisoft Massive’s new take on it is really interesting. You play as Kay Vess, a charming space outlaw, along with her cute companion, a fuzzy creature called an axolotl, and embark on daring adventures across the galaxy in the first open-world Star Wars game. The iconic planets look fantastic – gritty, lively, and fun to explore. Star Wars Outlaws will be available exclusively on PlayStation 5 in 2024.

Thank Goodness You’re Here!

This quirky adventure game is being described as a blend of cheeky British humor, reminiscent of classic comics like Viz and The Beano. Players will help the residents of a fictional northern town deal with their odd problems – think disputes over garden plots or issues at the local pie shop! Called ‘Thank Goodness You’re Here!’, it’s coming exclusively to PlayStation 5 in 2024.

Little Nightmares 3

Little Nightmares 3 is currently slated for release sometime in 2024. The good news is it will be available on many platforms, including PC, PlayStation 5 and 4, Xbox Series X|S and One, and Nintendo Switch, giving players plenty of ways to experience the game.

Baby Steps

Okay, so Nate was… well, let’s just say he wasn’t living his best life stuck in his parents’ basement. But things took a crazy turn when he got electrocuted and ended up lost in this weird swamp! He’s totally out of his depth, and it’s clear he needs to figure things out slowly, one step at a time. Honestly, I feel bad for the guy – even if he was kind of a mess before all this happened.

You play as someone trying to help Nate, a character in this quirky Australian comedy, avoid falling over – and messing up his dirty onesie! You’ll use the controller to keep his feet planted and maintain his balance. The game, called Baby Steps, will only be available on PlayStation 5 and is coming out in summer 2024.

Simulation Games

Simulation games aim to provide realistic, creative, and engaging experiences. Here are a few to watch for in 2024:

Life By You

After more than two decades, a new life simulation game is challenging The Sims by giving players extraordinary control over virtual people. You can step in and change nearly everything about their lives – from what they do each day to how they behave and what they say.

Life By You is a game where players can create their own stories and try out new things. It’s deeply immersive, potentially revealing quite a bit about what people are thinking and feeling. The game will only be available on PC and comes out on March 5th.

Pacific Drive

Journey through the Pacific Northwest while a strange event is happening – just try to keep your old car running! Collect what you need along the way, avoid the unusually intelligent lightning storms, and if you survive, finally get your vehicle fixed at the shop.

Pacific Drive is a unique survival game focused on the bond between the player and their car. It launches on February 22nd for PlayStation 5 and PC.

Manor Lords

Manor Lords, the highly awaited city-building game, will launch into Early Access on PC on April 26, 2024. The developers also announced that it will come to Xbox consoles and be available on Xbox Game Pass sometime after that. Players with PC Game Pass will be able to play it from day one.
