
Roger Cook, the well-known TV presenter of the current affairs show The Cook Report, has died at the age of 83, according to his family.
The family of Roger Cook announced with deep sadness that he passed away peacefully on Saturday after a brief illness.
Roger was a respected journalist with a successful career, but above all, he was a loving husband and father. We are heartbroken by his passing and ask for privacy during this challenging time.
Born in New Zealand, the journalist began working at ITV in 1985 and created the popular ‘Cook Report’ in 1987.
The current affairs programme ran for 16 seasons between July 1987 and August 1999.
Cook was known for his confrontational, doorstepping interview style – a format he popularised.

Throughout his career, he faced several injuries, including broken fingers, cracked ribs, and dislocated shoulders. He also received many threats on his life.
His program famously investigated shocking issues, ranging from illegal adoption practices in Brazil to organized crime networks in Northern Ireland.
In 1997, Cook received a special BAFTA award recognizing his 25 years of excellent investigative journalism.
Cook started his broadcasting career in Australia with the Australian Broadcasting Company. In 1968, he moved to the United Kingdom and began working at the BBC.
In 1973, he launched and hosted “Checkpoint” on Radio 4, a program dedicated to uncovering crime and fighting unfairness. This show served as a precursor to his later program, “The Cook Report,” which followed a similar style.

ITV honored Roger Cook after learning of his death, stating that throughout his remarkable fifty-year career, his innovative investigative reporting earned him a reputation as one of the most reliable and admired journalists in television.
