GameStop is planning to eliminate a key benefit for its Pro members. The company has been facing significant financial difficulties lately, with many stores closing despite occasional spikes in its stock price. Instead of attracting more shoppers, GameStop will reportedly be phasing out one of its most popular features soon.
Kotaku reports that GameStop is ending its Pro Points program this summer. Currently, GameStop Pro members earn 2% back in points on every purchase, which they can use to get discounts on future games, consoles, and accessories. While the Pro membership offers other benefits, earning and redeeming points is considered its most valuable feature.
GameStop is ending its rewards points program on August 15th. New Pro members joining after July 15th won’t earn points, and while current members can still earn them until August 15th, all points will expire on that date and can’t be used after.

The most confusing part of GameStop’s decision is that they aren’t offering anything new in place of the points system they’re removing. While the yearly Pro membership will still cost $25, members will now get fewer benefits. It’s a strange choice that could discourage customers from shopping at GameStop.
Over time, GameStop may eventually close down completely. Digital game sales are increasing, and many publishers aren’t focusing on physical copies anymore, which has significantly reduced GameStop’s popularity. Even loyal customers are losing benefits, making a major turnaround in the near future seem unlikely.
