Sally Phillips, known for playing Bridget Jones’ friend, stars as a talented amateur detective and hairdresser in the new BBC drama, The Hairdresser Mysteries.
Okay, so I just saw this new film, and it’s really charming. Mackenzie Phillips is fantastic as Lily, a hairdresser who trades the hustle and bustle of the city for a quieter life running a salon in a quaint village. But things aren’t as peaceful as they seem! She quickly gets tangled up in a series of local mysteries. It’s got this really fun, upbeat vibe that reminds me of 1970s crime dramas, but with a lot more heart. Definitely a nostalgic and enjoyable watch.
Charlotte Jordan, known for her role on Coronation Street, will also be part of the series. She plays Clary Coombs, a smart and observant salon assistant who helps Lily with her investigations.
The book’s summary says that the hairdresser quickly becomes the center of gossip and learns all the secrets of the new town she lives in, as people confide in her.
Lily uses her remarkable ability to understand people, combined with her hairdressing skills, to unravel the secrets of the village.

Joining Phillips and Jordan is Ben Castle-Gibb, known from “You,” playing PC Adam Watson, a keen young police officer in the village who develops a strong attraction to Clary. Sunetra Sarker, famous for her role in “Ackley Bridge,” plays Wincey Evans, the village’s busybody and source of all the local news.
The cast also features Clive Rowe, known for his role in The Addams Family UK tour, as Lonnie, the colorful manager of the local charity shop. Guy Henry, from Holby City, will play Race Runard, a quirky antiques dealer who loves collecting rare teacups and saucers.

The new six-episode series is from award-winning writer Jim Cartwright, known for works like ‘Road’ and ‘The Rise and Fall of Little Voice’. It will feature several guest stars, including Wendi Peters (from ‘Coronation Street’) playing Gloria Crudd, a woman who opens an ice cream shop in a village hoping for a new beginning, but her past quickly resurfaces.
The Hairdresser Mysteries is coming to BBC One and BBC iPlayer in July.
