Great news for enthusiasts of the outstanding fighting game anthology, Capcom Fighting Collection 2: the game will receive a complimentary update on August 7th, integrating the four characters that were originally exclusive to the PlayStation Portable in Street Fighter Alpha 3 Upper.
For those unaware, Street Fighter Alpha 3, initially released elsewhere, was adapted for Game Boy Advance in 2002 by Crawfish Interactive. They incorporated three new characters, Eagle, Maki, and Yun, into the game.
Initially, those three characters were incorporated into the exceptional PSP edition of Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max, labeled as “Arcade Perfect”. Alongside them was Ingrid, a character who had earlier appeared exclusively in the criticized Capcom Fighting Evolution for PlayStation 2.
Four characters are now joining Street Fighter Alpha 3 Upper in Capcom Fighting Collection 2, resulting in the ultimate edition of this game. It’s also been announced that Ingrid will be released as DLC for Street Fighter 6 next year, so it’s great to have an opportunity to familiarize oneself with her in a high-quality title.
Beyond the original four playable characters, we’re also introducing some fresh gameplay styles: Normal, Mazi, Saikyo, and Classic. From what I gather, Mazi amplifies your attack power, while Saikyo reduces it, and Classic goes back to basics by removing many of the contemporary features, like supers and such.
Besides the existing features, you’ll encounter fresh artworks, reworked tunes by Capcom’s top-notch sound crew, and a revised Plasma Sword that offers enhanced capabilities for examining each character’s combo sequences in practice mode.
Just to reiterate, all of this is free.
Without a doubt, we strongly endorse this game, considering it received a 9/10 rating in our Capcom Fighting Collection 2 PS4 critique.
Despite not having all the single-player modes from the original console versions due to its focus on arcade conversions, this collection offers such a wealth of high-quality content that it’s challenging to find fault with it. Games like Capcom vs. SNK 2 and Street Fighter Alpha 3 Upper are strong contenders for being among the best fighting games ever created.
