Brand New Day’s Spider-Man Costume Finally Ends a 6-Movie MCU Trend

Spider-Man has been a fixture in the movie world for more than two decades now. Sam Raimi kicked off his journey in 2002, introducing Tobey Maguire as our friendly neighborhood hero and offering a relatively realistic portrayal of the character. Things were running smoothly until ‘Spider-Man 3’ in 2007, which attempted to tackle too many villains – Sandman, Venom, and New Goblin. The mixed reviews it received forced Sony to rethink their approach, leading them to restart the series with Marc Webb and Andrew Garfield. However, the two ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ films didn’t fare any better, paving the way for Peter Parker to join the most prominent cinematic universe – the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Given that Spider-Man was entering an established Marvel universe, it made sense for Marvel Studios to skip over retelling his origin tale and instead introduce him mid-action in “Captain America: Civil War”. By aligning with Team Iron Man, Peter Parker embarked on a journey that spanned six movies. In the new movie “Spider-Man: Fresh Start“, our web-slinging protagonist is venturing down a new path, including a change in his costume design.

Spider-Man Is Finally Stepping Out of Iron Man’s Shadow in Brand New Day

Before the events of “Civil War”, Tony Stark had been monitoring Peter for some time. So when he requires additional strength to counter Team Captain America, he contacts the young man. Their encounter proves successful, as Tony gains insight into why Peter acts as he does, however, there’s a problem: Spider-Man lacks the appropriate equipment. Upon arriving in Germany, Peter discovers a new suit that serves him admirably during the airport battle and the occurrences of “Spider-Man: Homecoming”. It’s not until space travel that Spider-Man decides to change things up and wear the Iron Spider suit, a present from Tony. Regrettably, Peter perishes soon after donning it, disintegrating along with half the universe following Thanos’ snap.

As I step into a world devoid of Iron Man following Thanos’ downfall and Tony Stark’s selfless sacrifice using the Nano Gauntlet, I find myself relying on my own resources in “Spider-Man: No Way Home.” Fortunately, Happy Hogan extends a helping hand, enabling me to construct a new suit with Stark Tech to face off against Mysterio. In my darkest hour, I turn to the Stark legacy one last time in “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” crafting the Integrated Suit – a fusion of my past costumes’ finest elements.

In the movie “No Way Home”, it’s noted that after Peter, the hero, nobody seems to remember him. This implies that Tony Stark and Happy Hogan, who were his last known connections, won’t be available to assist him anymore. At the end of the 2021 film, Peter is left to create a new homemade suit, signifying the start of a fresh chapter. Even though he may not be following in Tony Stark’s footsteps as the next Iron Man, he continues to pay tribute to those who are significant in his life.

Peter 2 and Peter 3 Help Peter 1 During a Tough Time

In the movie No Way Home, when Doctor Strange’s spell backfires, characters from multiple realities start appearing on Earth-616, including two different versions of Spider-Man. They introduce themselves first to MJ and Ned, then meet Peter, discussing the death of Aunt May. Each Spider-Man variant has experienced a significant loss, but these hardships define them – a fact that resonates with Earth-616 Peter. Together, they devise strategies to contain the rampaging villains, successfully completing their mission at the Statue of Liberty. Sadly, one Spider-Man must erase everyone’s memories about him to save the world, leaving him on his own.

In this new chapter, Spider-Man embarks on an independent journey for the first time, yet he carries his support system within him. The enhanced webbing on the fresh suit bears a resemblance to Peter 2’s appearance, and Peter 3 sported a similar logo, which aligns with what will be seen in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film. Although it lacks the sophistication of Stark technology, Spider-Man’s latest attire demonstrates that heroism encompasses more than just gadgets and accessories.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits theaters on July 31, 2025.
