Over three decades past, Steven Spielberg let loose his colossal dinosaurs worldwide, and conquer they did, a fact that still holds true as his movie continues to be his highest-earning production. This is quite an accomplishment for the director who brought us Raiders of the Lost Ark, E.T., and Jaws.
As a captivated observer, I’d express it like this: I found the recipe for Jurassic Park intriguing – a blend of exhilarating adventure and chilling thriller, but with a unique twist: instead of a menacing shark or relentless Nazi horde, dinosaurs resurrected from prehistoric times served as the antagonists. It became the cinematic benchmark, the film against which all future blockbusters were measured.
Originating from a bestselling book by Michael Crichton, Jurassic Park was not initially intended as a pop culture phenomenon. However, it has since expanded to consume nearly everything in its path, resulting in an array of toys, live stage shows, and, ironically, various theme park attractions.
Starting with the newest addition, Jurassic World: Dominion, here’s a suggested sequence for watching the Jurassic Park series, ensuring you experience all the dinosaur-filled chaos in the right order:
1. Jurassic Park (1993)
2. The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997)
3. Jurassic Park III (2001)
4. Jurassic World (2015)
5. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018)
6. Jurassic World: Dominion (2022)
7. Jurassic Park: The Lost World – San Diego Siege (animated series, 1997) and Jurassic Park: Trespasser (video game, 1992) are optional but can provide additional context if you’re a die-hard fan!
How to watch the Jurassic Park movies in order
Jurassic Park (1993)

In 1993, I was part of the audience that witnessed Jurassic Park shatter box office records, overtaking even Steven Spielberg’s ET in the process. The film captivated me with its revolutionary special effects, meticulously crafted dinosaur animatronics, and Spielberg’s signature flawless direction. Jurassic Park was an exceptional blockbuster that resonated with critics worldwide, earning it enduring love and becoming one of the most cherished films in history.
In this rendition, Sam Neill and Laura Dern portray a duo of paleontologists, while Jeff Goldblum takes on the role of Dr. Ian Malcolm, a chaos theorist. Together, they find themselves ensnared within Jurassic Park following an act of industrial sabotage that undermines the park’s safety measures. This allows ancient dinosaurs, rejuvenated through genetic engineering, to roam freely once more. This classic film remains unsurpassed in its genre.
The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997)

Following author Michael Crichton penning a follow-up to his novel, partly prompted by Spielberg’s encouragement, the renowned director aimed to transform that story as well. Starring only Jeff Goldblum and Richard Attenborough from the original film, “The Lost World” portrays John Hammond’s (Attenborough) efforts to make amends as he grapples with the repercussions of his invention.
Despite its commercial triumph, The Lost World is often not considered the preferred Jurassic Park movie by many, a fact that director Steven Spielberg has expressed dissatisfaction with on numerous occasions. Regarding the sequel, he stated: “My sequels aren’t as strong as my originals because I approach each sequel I’ve made with too much confidence.
The success of this film, earning a staggering amount, paved the way for a sequel, leading me to assume it would be a surefire hit. However, I ended up creating a subpar movie compared to the original, referring to “The Lost World” and its predecessor, “Jurassic Park”.
Jurassic Park III (2001)

In contrast to its predecessors that were either directed by Spielberg or had significant input from Michael Crichton, Jurassic Park III was helmed by Joe Johnston. Sam Neill and Laura Dern reappeared in this movie, but their roles were primarily limited to brief appearances compared to their involvement in the first film.
Despite the fact that filming commenced prior to completion of the script, Jurassic Park III initially appeared somewhat disorganized. However, over time it has evolved into a cult classic, appreciated today for its exciting action sequences and gripping genre elements.
Jurassic World (2015)

Planning for a fourth Jurassic Park movie dates back to 2001, with numerous subsequent attempts throughout the decade. The story unfolds approximately 20 years after the original film’s events, presenting a fully functioning dinosaur-themed park where genetically engineered creatures roam free. However, one of these beasts breaks loose and causes chaos.
In a fresh lineup, starring Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Vincent D’Onofrio, Jurassic World mirrored the financial triumph of its predecessor and garnered praise from Steven Spielberg and Colin Trevorrow for the film.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2019)
In “Fallen Kingdom,” we delve deeper into the events following Jurassic World, and bring back Goldblum in a cameo appearance. This film tells a story about rescuing dinosaurs as various groups aim to capitalize on the remnants of the collapsed theme park, including auctioning off the surviving creatures for profit.
In contrast to Jurassic World, which was widely acclaimed, Fallen Kingdom did not fare as positively in reviews. The movie seemed to lean more heavily on computer-generated imagery (CGI) rather than animatronics, and some critics found the chemistry between Pratt and Howard lacking.
Jurassic World: Dominion (2022)

In line with the popular Hollywood strategy of reuniting past actors for contemporary movies, Dominion marked the reunion of Neill, Dern, and Goldblum since their last appearance in Jurassic Park. Notably, this time around, dinosaurs coexist peacefully with humans, following the occurrences depicted in Fallen Kingdom.
Although Dominion was a blockbuster in terms of box office earnings, it turned out to be the least favored Jurassic Park film among critics due to its lackluster dialogue, repetitive action sequences, and less engaging new characters.
And stomping into cinemas with the seventh instalment in the franchise is Jurassic World: Rebirth.
Jurassic World: Rebirth (2025)

In a grittier, survival-focused style reminiscent of the original 1993 Jurassic Park film, this fresh installment penned by David Koepp and helmed by Gareth Edwards, rekindles the spirit of the classic dinosaur tale.
5 years post Dominion, the story unfolds with new characters joining the franchise. Scarlett Johansson portrays Zora Bennett, a skilled operative spearheading a mission for the biotech giant ParkerGenix. She’s accompanied by palaeontologist Dr. Henry Loomis, played by Jonathan Bailey, and seasoned ship captain Duncan Kincaid, brought to life by Mahershala Ali.
In a remote island, they stumble upon a civilian group consisting of Reuben Delgado and his offspring, introducing fresh challenges. The new addition to the series delves into the moral implications of reviving ancient life forms, and uncovers the violent events’ roots.
